Drain question...

Do yall recommend a true union ball valve on drain set ups? Or a gate valve with unions added on either side (can't seem to find gate valves with unions attached)?

I understand that gates are easier to fine tune your system but is it really necessary?

How about colored PVC?

Also 2 of the holes drilled are 2" in diameter thus a 1 1/4" bulkhead will fit. I dont not see that 1 1/4" parts are as readily available. Is this size I should stay away from? Should I just use 1"?

Hey. I would go with a gate valve with unions. You will save your self a headache in the future if you ever need to relocate your tank & gate valve are very precise & easy to work with.

You can do it with a ball valve, it’s just a lot easier with a gate.

Colored PVC is really cool, you just have to do a better job of planning because messups come with a 3 day delay and a shipping charge for most of us.

With 2" hole i recommend 1" schedule 80 bulkhead and gate valve. Color PVC if you are into it. Sometimes I turn my gate valve just hair so ball valve will be a pain

I've used both and the spears gate valve is way easier to tune. Also, look up formufit furniture grade pvc. They have some colors in 1 1/4". I've ordered all these parts with Prime shipping for pretty cheap.

Spears gate valve on drains and return. Spears ball valve on manifold, thumb valve on reactor. Most spears valves do come with and without unions, but spears product are not cheap. 60-70% plumbing cost goes to valves and unions.
