I'm in the process of getting a tank built and the bean animal style drain came up. I'm new to that style. Sounds safe as there are three drains. Is it all that much better?

It's very nice. I'll never have a tank without it.

I have the animal style and will never go back, silent, moves a ton of water and I had one get blocked by a piece of nori and it never missed a beat. The one suggestion I would say is for the two drains, use gate values on each. I have my overflow plumbed to exit above the surface of the water in my fuge so it it overflows it makes noise. otherwise the only noise i get is my fish breaking the surface for food.

If it exits above the waterline then it isn't creating a siphon... unless I am misunderstanding what you are saying

I am referencing the emergency overflow, it only applies when one or both of the others are blocked/restricted.

just noticed that I didnt specify emergency, I should have. In any case, do it, build it, don't waste time
