1.What is the address to the new location?
2301 N Wilmington Ave, Compton, CA 90222

2. How far away is the new location from the current location?
Approximately four to five minutes if you are walking, one or two minutes if you are driving or simply put about ¼ mile. Our customers commute to Ellis Aquatics will be affected nowhere near as much as the owners (Jayson’s) commute.

3. When will the new Ellis Aquatics be open for business?
The current estimate is by the first week of August, but if all goes smooth, we may be open as soon as the last week of July.

4. What will the schedule be?
Once we have moved to the new location and get settled in, we will resume our normal schedule we have had for years. Long term we will be extending hours, and will announce these improvements as they are made.

5. “SO ARE ALL YOUR PRICES ARE GOING UP!?”
We get this question way more often then even the question of where is the new building located. With that being said I will give a very detailed answer because I know this question is important.
Ellis Aquatics was built on a foundation of great customer service, honesty, selection, and of course “the Highest quality, the Lowest prices”. We have no plans of forgetting who we are as a business, where we came from, and the people who got us where we are. Afterall we started this business as a way to create an affordable alternative to the big-name coral/fish dealers with their 200%-2000%+++ mark ups.
We have always been a profit by volume of sales (plural), not profit per sale type of business. We have always had a business model that we would rather make $1 off of each of 100 customers, rather than $100 off of one customer. This business model has consistently created a happy customer base for over 7 years and we have no plans to change what works.
In addition, the expansion will allow us to continue to aquaculture on a much larger scale. By growing more and more of our own coral, we can reduce cost significantly, and pass on better quality, more established coral to our customers.
Short answer to the question is there WILL be changes to Ellis Aquatics (added parking lot, larger selection, larger walking space, bathrooms, larger volume and variety of dry goods etc) but pricing going up is not one of them.

6. Do we need help moving?
We definitely could use a few strong hands on one- or two-days next week to help move two of our current tanks. Luckily, we have a lot of great customers (like family) offering help and we are putting together a list of a few herculean helpers. If you would like to volunteer some help, please shoot us a message. We will take care of our awesome volunteers with hardy high fives and EA Gift cards.

To further ease your mind and give you some insight, here is a little history on the behind the scenes of Ellis Aquatics over the past 16+ months. We began looking (again) to PUCHASE a building to expand into in March 2018. By May 2018 we were in the process of purchasing a 5-unit strip mall. By July 2018 we fell out of escrow and lost thousands of dollars on appraisals and mandatory environmental reports (the soil was extremely toxic due to a prior dry cleaner). August 2018, we began escrow, and October 3, 2018 we took OWNERSHIP of our new location. December 24, 2018 Plans for upgrades/improvements finally get approved by the city. During demolition/construction from October 2018 through July 2019 (9+ months due to slow moving city reviews, inspections and approvals, locating/fixing unknown new problems, added construction cost and plans etc) we have now replaced and have 100% new: Electrical, Plumbing, Gas, Sewage, Drywall, Flooring, Roof, Paint, stucco etc, added a Parking Lot and Driveway, (basically we have “a few” studs in the walls that are original but rebuilt 95% of the rest of this building at this point).
Why is all of this information important to you, you may ask? The reason all those details are important is we have had tens of tens of tens of thousands of dollars of extra expenses coming in over the past year plus, and not one price increase. We have been paying for the new location’s bills (water, gas, electric, trash, business loan, insurance etc) since 11/2018 and not one price increase. We have been paying the City and architect over ten thousand throughout the planning and permitting/licensing process with not one price increase. We have paid tens of thousands in construction/materials for the new shop repairs/upgrades and not one price increase. We have spent tens of thousands on the business side expansion and not one price increase along the way. What we are trying to say is we have been fortunate, made some good financial decisions on our end, and have been able to share that with our customers by absorbing all the additional overhead associated with an expansion/purchase of this type.

Long story short is Ellis Aquatics is/has upgraded our Space, Parking, Customer Service, Quality, Selection, etc.. The only thing staying stagnant is our great pricing we became famous for.
