My Tank Build
Ended up working on tank from 2am to 5am. Got all the seamed cleaned up with the razor blade. Tomorrow I’ll vacuum up all the loose silicone and clean up with a little water an sponge. I wanna wait a few days before I try cleaning the seams with acetone. Don’t want the acetone to cause the silicone to break down (maybe).

I also got my measurements for the new Eurobrace. Need to call the glass company to tomorrow and see if they can cut the size I want. I want to try to see if they can do 2” wide strips. Instead of 2.5” like I originally planned. Fingers crossed they can. But if not I have to go with what they can cut.
Here’s my measurements

Looks great. Cleaned up nice
Thanks guys. I’m getting pretty psyched to see this come together.

So I guess I just have to make things difficult (as what my wife says) the reason being is I called the glass shop that originally quoted me $280 for the piece for the Eurobrace to see if I can get 2” strips instead of 2.5”. They couldn’t do it. So now I’ve been calling around to see what is possible. So far 2.5 is the best I’m going to be able to do. But I did get a better quote. $215 for 2 pieces at 58 and 11/16” by 2.5” by 0.5” thick glass. Then another 2 pieces of 23 and 7/8” by 2.5” by 0.5” all edges flat polished of annealed (non tempered) glass. If I don’t hear back from the other shops be for I have to leave for work I’ll call that shop back and place the order.

Now the question is should I order starphire Eurobrace or regular glass? What do you guys thing. I know it’s not a big deal and not needed. But no lie when you hold up a starphire piece of glass next to regular glass you can see a big difference

So thank you @five.five-six
I contacted golden glass along with a few local glass shops and golden glass for the win. They were able to do 2” thick strips and the price was $100 less then the closest price quote. I even told the gentleman on the phone that I was recommended by a fish nerd as we were shooting the shit when he asked me what I was using the glass for. And me being me could not help but to tell him what project I was working on. He was even slightly impressed that I was using starphire for the front and side panels. I did tell him that it’s pretty much a staple in our hobby these day for most high tanks to be made of starphire.

So if anyone is looking for a really great deal on glass Golden Glass in Anaheim is hard to beat.

Well me and my helper laid down a new inner seal this morning. The seams are looking super clean.

Tomorrow after I know the silicone has set for 24 hours I’ll start laying the tape for the eurobrace. I’m planning to recess the Eurobrace by an eighth maybe a quarter of an inch. I don’t want a full half inch recess just a slight recess.

So wife went a picked up my Eurobrace out in Fullerton yesterday afternoon. Although the having her get them for me cost me more then I was hoping because her and the kids had to go to downtown Disney afterwards.

By o well, so here we go

They nailed my measurements too

But I’m really kinda wishing I’d have paid the extra for the starphire. Man the difference between the 2 types of glass at 1/2” is pretty noticeable.

Damn looking real good man.

They always end up getting dirty though on the wet side, once everything a running you’ll probably never even notice.
Yea I didn’t even think about that also. Plus there not pieces that I’ll ever really look throw for long periods.

Eff that!!!! I’ve had a 300 and not again. I really love the dims of this tank. 60”X30” on the foot print. I really have nothing to upgrade other then the tank and stand with these dims. Being that the 150 is 60”X24” I can us my current equipment from the 150 on the 187. It’s the only real reason why I decided to attempt this project.

But side note. Mr turbo and my lady were talkin non sense on Sunday saying I’m going to be setting up my own shop re building tanks. I’m like hell no this shit wasn’t easy and no one would pay for it. Plus I am no way going to be liable for another persons home.
