Ok. Well I guess I’m keeping the tank. Couldn’t sell it for the asking price before I had the surgery. So here goes a few updates. Really there’s not much to update. Been kinda strapped for cash sense I wasn’t getting normal OT pay.
But my lady did get me a yellow tang a few weeks ago while I was at physical therapy.

Tank has been on auto pilot for the last 2 months. So not much has changed. It’s only gone through the normal new tank stuff

I am loving the flow from the M1 in the close loop. I’ve been running the M1 at max power and have no heat issues or leak issues.
Also this skimmer is a beast. Just cleaned it and 2 hours later it’s already brewing a fresh pot

Not much change to the sump

Fuge is pretty skummy, but hey isn’t better down there then in the tank.

Hey Reefer’s or bubble king owners. Are they a pita to dial in?

So twice yesterday this BK has volcanoed. I set the water level at the max line a watch it for about a half hour to see where the head is building. Both time I’d barely get any foam. The head would build up at the base of the neck. I figured cause I had a light bio load it wasn’t skimming so great. I only have 4 fish and 4 corals. A few hours later I hear it thump thump thump the sound if the air pushin the skimmer lip up. Sure enough skimmer cup full.
Also I’ve read that BK usually have a breaking in period. How long can it take?

Well picked up 2 cleaner wrasses today. I love watching the fish line up in front of them to get cleaned.

It’s amazing to see how much the powder brown changes colors when it wants to be cleaned.

They can be, but once they have settled in they should be fine. Unless something funky is in the water
Yea that’s what I’ve read.
Everything I’ve read says they need to break in but no where does it say a time frame on when they break in. Anybody how a rough idea on how long it normal takes to break in a BK.
My itech never really had a break in period or not one I really noticed. I used that skimmer for around 10 years.

Well so fare so good. I think I got the BK dialed in. Getting some really nice foam in the cup. I’m going to have to by a new o-ring for the cup tho. I’m getting salt creep where the cup sits on the body of the skimmer.

Moved the UV exit line so that the water from the sterilizer goes pretty much straight into the skimmer. It does seem to help get a better head of foam in the skimmer from what I’ve noticed.
I’m still fighting diatoms but I’m going to try to do a good cleaning this weekend. I’m going to try to suck out as much as possible in a water change.

Got around to doing some tank maintenance. Did a 20 gal water change and tried to suck out the diatoms. Added around 60lbs of crush coral aggregate to the tank.

Added a green carpet last week and so fare it’s doing well. Hasn’t eaten any fish tho.

Last month the tank got a horrible Dino breakout. I first thought it was diatoms but nope was dinos.

The tank looked horrible.
I did several different things to help combat the dino. I turned off the refuse gym lights for a few days to try to get the nitrates to come up. I disconnected my GFO and carbon reactor. I turned the DC pump on my skimmer to the lowest setting so that I wouldn’t be producing as much skimmate so that hoping my nitrates would come up a little bit. After about a week of running the tank up a little on the dirty side I wasn’t seeing much improvement. So I ended up doing a three day blackout period at the same time starting the three day blackout I also dosed DinoX.
The tank is starting to look About 80 to 90% better

Yes I know one side is Blue and the other side is purple. I have no clue why my halides are doing that. I don’t know if the ballast is bad or the bulb is going bad I don’t know. But I snapped a picture as I was walking out the door to go to work. A buddy told me it was because I was using running Electronic ballasts not M80 Ballasts. He said the M80 Ballasts run the double ends better than the electronic ballast
