I have been battling GHA and losing badly.... actually all I did was buy 250 hermit crabs, start using NOPOX again and did a bunch of manual removal Saturday. I also dosed Flux Rx TM on Saturday. Instructions say to keep the skimmer off for 72hrs because it ill probably go nuts... well I just cleaned my skimmer and ran it a bit and it runs good, will the skimmer remove the treatment from the water or can I start running it?

It will remove the treatment from the water. I always continue to run my skimmer but leave the cup off. I have a spare piece of acrylic I cut so I can block the splash and redirect the foam back into the sump. I usually run it like that until I see physical changes in the color of bryopsis then put the cup back on. In my case, that's all it worked for. did nothing for GHA in my system.

Don't quote me 100% on this, but I think in the first couple days, the skimmer can remove it from the water column as is normal. I think after that, much of it will be absorbed by the GHA, which is why you're able to use the skimmer again. Even though it has been absorbed by the GHA, it is pretty slow acting. I had bryopsis in a nano and Fluc cleared it up within about a week. I'm currently treating some unidentified GHA in my other tank and it's slowly but surely working. Pushing through my second week now.

I kept the skimmer off for 4 days, but ran GFO and biopellets which don't affect the treatment. The GHA hasn't gone white and died off directly, but it has stopped growing, is easy to pull off the rocks, and is getting smothered out by cyano. I'm basically letting the cyano choke it out, then pulling it off in sheets, showing clean rock underneath.

My cyano isnt running amok, only growing on the dying GHA, so it's a pretty convenient helper right now. Keep up with manual removal and if you must do a water change(to siphon dead algae or whatever) then dose more fluconazole based on the amount of water you replaced. Between my 2 large rocks that were both covered, 1 is now algae free and the 2nd just has some wispy stuff left on it

Cyano is usually pretty easy to get rid of with chemiclean.

I didn’t run skimmer for 6 days and plucked pounds of GHA, at least I’m to the point now where my COC stands a chance at managing the GHA.

I’m running NoPoX and occasionally dosing lanthanum chloride if Po4 goes over .06 Which is where it is now.

I think I’ll run some GFO to try and put the GHA down for the count. Several of my stags are still rather brown so I doubt I will starve them of nutrients any time quickly.

I'm kind of just letting it do its thing for now. I haven't had bad cyano in this tank. Got a bit when I first set it up, but it went away on its own after a couple weeks. Now there's a bit on the back wall and it's smothering my gha, so for the moment it's beneficial lol. If the gha disappears and the cyano continues, then chemi clean may be my next move, but for now I'll just let it ride

do you have vermetid snails? If so, turbo snails tend to stay away from rock with them on it. May need some bumble bee snails to get rid if them and then hopefully the turbo snails will eradicate the GHA.

I don’t have any vermetid snails but I do have a bunch of their tubes.

Anyone have any luck with elevated Mag to deal with GHA?

I had high Mag- (1600+) and coincidentally GHA died. I know this is antidotal, may or May not be related. After I , I found posts claiming Mag kills GHA and Bryopsis. But I see mixed reviews online. And I didn’t do it for this reason (it was a dosing mistake actually) but no negative side effects, didn’t even know my tests were off until I got trident. But gha gone, so idk.

I’m using BRS Mag pouch. (Not Kent) - no real proof of the Mag or other methods are what did it for me- but display is gha free.
Just food for thought.
