Hello everyone,

I know fluconazole will work for bryopsis and green hair algae. But, will it work for red hair or red turf algae? I have been manually battling red algae for a few months and it's just not going away. To be clear, it's not the cotton candy stuff. It looks stringy red turf algae.

I have a 29 Biocube. I run chemipure elite, purigen, phosgaurd. Water changes every week for the past 2 months, before I was doing every other week (~20%).

Thanks!

Hey. Sounds like you might have something trapping excess nutrients & not releasing them or being stored somewhere where you haven’t attacked yet. Would be nice to get water parameters if possible. Gravity, NO3, PO4, PH, etc & your light cycle, how old are the lamps if you are still running fluorescents.

I just used this on my 30g and it worked amazingly well on my algae! Algae Was getting bad, covering everything and was completely gone in about 2weeks. I also have what looks like red turf algae but that seems unaffected by the Fluc.

Ah ok, so it doesn't work on the red stuff. :(

I don't think that's bryopsis unfortunately. I'd say give the fluconazole a shot as it supposedly doesn't have negative affects on corals. Have you tried Vibrant?

I started dosing vibrant two weeks ago. Not much difference so far. The only thing I haven't tried yet is a 3 day blackout...but I'd like to avoid that if possible.
