For those who DO run a UV

Do you cycle running your UV or just let it run 24/7?

Ive been running mine 24/7 but im thinking about cycling like 2 weeks on 2 off but not sure if its worth it. From what ive heard its acutally bad for the UV bulb and will shorten the life of it...:beer:

Also what types of corals do you have? LPS/SPS...

24/7 UV bulbs hardly last anyway.

I run them simultaneously with the main light to limit the bacterial eradication, most good bacteria hide when the light is on, and the floating parasite is left out on the water to be eradicated.

24/7 for me. this way you catch the parasites whenever they are released into the column.

Just wondering--where do you get that?

I currently only run one on my SPS tank, though I've had them on softy tanks and FOWLR tanks, too.

i have sofites, lps, sps, and clams.
i also am not sure where the concern for destroying beneficial bacteria comes form. it makes no sense at all to me. the bacteria colonates the rock and sand. it lives, feeds, and breeds on the rock and sand. if it is in the water column, and gets killed, don't worry, you have a lot of rock and sand with a LOT of bacteria there to replace the idiots that jumped ship.

It saved my tank when i first started when i was loosing fish left and right to Ick. Im a believer. I havnt set mine up again since i moved cause there hasnt been an issue so it been low priority but your tank is going down hill it a help and ive seen it from multiple people to be the best solution. My $0.02
