My ph drops to 7.8 every night (from 8.2-8.3), the waters parameters are all where they should be, I've read of people running a line from the venturi on their skimmers outside, bringing in fresh air when the house air isnt exactly oxygen rich. Has anyone had any luck with this? I've thought of doing that, as well as putting a maxijet in my sump, and running the airline to that outside as well, and have it on a timer to only run at night when its needed. Opening a window in the evening to let in air isn't an option, we have a brown widow issue, and i hate spiders... ><

thanks for the input!

My ph used to be 8.0 and below before I ran a hose from the skimmer to the outside of the house for fresh air. I did not want to risk any problems with a line that was too small not supplying enough air or being accidently pinched and crimped restricting the air flow. I used a big diameter kink freed type garden hose from the outer wall of the house to the sump where I reduced the diameter with flexible tubing to the air intake of the skimmer.

how big is the room the tank is in? and how big is the tank?
Try to a refuge on reverse lighting that will help with the ph for sure.

Plus one on the refugium on reverse lighting cycle. Wouldn't running a longer airline affect the skimmer performance?

kalk at night is one of my fav. ways. I used to love refugiums, but on heavily skimmed tanks, they can be more of a hassle than they're worth. Is the room being slept in? Can you keep a window open in the room?

i use the reverse light cycle on my refugium and that helped. Fuge light is on (at night) when the main tank light are off. Maybe set up your top off system to work only at night and ad pH buffer to the top off water or a Kalk reactor to top off system??

The rooms about 15ft x 15ft, and ya its being slept in >< I ran cheato in my sump for a while, so i have the lighting down there for the refugium, what specifically in the fuge would combat the ph? live rock? I was told the cheato would, but it didnt touch the ph.

I ran the line very large, seems to of not affected performance, BUT, my ph is still 7.8 in the morning ><

Well the reason the ph drops at night is that the photosynthetic algae in the corals produce CO2 at night which drops the ph. If your run the reverse cycle the algae in refugium will be producing oxygen and using up some CO2 through photosynthesis.
So that's the reason running a reverse cycle would help.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong though.
