Frozen fish food? Do you drain?

How do you prepare frozen fish food?

  • Thaw and drain the juice and add only the food into the tank

If I want to be sure the smaller fish get some, I hold the frozen cube in front of the return line to blow and scatter it. My Vlamingi tang can just about eat an entire mysis cube in one bite. He would if he could.

I thaw out my frozen foods with tank water, don’t rinse it at all as I feel like the corals will uptake and feed off the smaller particles.

I actually started making my own frozen food about 6 months ago and I included some small marine plankton based foods like Reef Roids into the mix so it feeds my corals as well.
