Having worked in the glass trade 30+ years ago for a glass supplier. Back then there were a few suppliers. Guessing there are fewer today since even the one I worked for shuttered their doors years ago and we covered all of LA and Orange county back then. They all get there glass from the same maker/s. So the difference comes from their mark up and how much they want to make or need to make to meet bills.
I can tell you that some, like probably in any trade, give a high estimate to make you go away thinking you’re not serious or just don‘t want to deal with this.
You’re prefix is San Diego. Find a Mexican shop and get a quote. They may be more reasonable and easier to work. It for the money, time, and aggravation find something close to the size you want and settle. By the way, what dimensions are you wanting?

Thank you that's good information to know. I need a piece at 1/2" 88x28 and two at 1/2" 28x28. Plus a bunch of 3.5" pieces for euro bracing. I'm building a custom hybrid glass/epoxy resin plywood reef tank and stand.

If you want an affordable aquarium you can call Fujimoto Aquariums in Gardena. 310 324-61nine nine. It may end up cheeper that trying to get custom cuts and edge polishing. I just got a 18 x 18 x 24 tall tank built to order for $75. Nice 3/8 glass for my sons first tank. I saw a 72 x 30 x 20 set up as a peninsula overflow for $500. It did have a large center brace but I think they will do eurobraceing too. They use lots of silicone and aren't like the high end tanks like AGE, Crystal Dynamics, or LeeMar, but more like a Visio. But if you want a glass box in a couple weeks that's a specific size they do it and will leave you with some cash to stock it.
