Yes agreed please only take this fish if you are able to handle quarantine and medicating. Do not take this fish to cycle an aquarium!

Ya. I agree. There should be a warning on your post to take it only if you know how to quarantine and such.
Edited! Sorry I posted so fast because I want some one to take this fish since I finally caught it. It’s stayed alive just fine. I want to go fallow and have no way to take care of the fish, nor the experience. Thank you for reminding me to add that!

Thank you, hopefully somebody will commit to safely handle this fish back into good health.

I do too! For now I will keep it in a trap in the tank. I don’t want the fish to be harmed. I know the picture isn’t that great but I think those are specks of sand on the fish! This fish looks fine. All the others for sure had white spot tho. So I have to assume this fish does too.

Dang I wish my QT was setup, beautiful fish. Hopefully he finds a home, wrasses are usually pretty resilient so Im sure hes got a fighting chance.
I know that’s how I felt too. The fish looks absolutely great still and seems like it. I read about people having everything in their tanks wipe out except all their wrasses. YouTube video of “Wrasse only reef tank with 9 wrasses how it works” he says every thing else died. I get it now. I don’t even know what the fudge happened completely but it looked like ich on my purple tang, then my cardinals died 1 by 1. This guys fine tho.

fwiw that's halichoeres biocellatus or red line wrasse, great fish. it does halichoeres good stuff like eating pests in the tank, but stays smaller so it doesn't also take down cleaner shrimp or most inverts. although mine has issues resisting a nassarius snail crawling its way up the glass toward masstick :devilish:

seems like wrasses tank stuff like ich and velvet with little problems, their issue seems more to be flukes or internal issues

In my experience, sand sleepers or mucus sleepers don’t succumb to infection from ich like cave dwellings wrasse or in general other fish species do. Part of this is to do with the way that marine ich (or cryptocaryon irritans) reproduces in the water column. The parasite is free floating in the water column and the phases of reproduction occur at night when the originally described wrasses are asleep. The initially described sand sleepers and mucus sleepers are effectively protected from this opportunity for infection. If your fish is still eating, that’s a great sign. Consider treating the food with vitamins and you may be able to keep it in your tank waiting out the infection before you add more fish.

I’ve had ich outbreaks before and my moyeri leopard wrasse (another sand sleeper) never displayed telltale signs of infection nor any white spots. Meanwhile other fish succumbed to the illness.

Hope your wrasse pulls through!
