I have the Hanna Alkalinity Checker. I noticed that after I open a new bottle of reagent, my alkalinity goes up. Over the course of the last week my alkalinity was bouncing between 7.9 and 8.0. Last test was Saturday. Open a new bottle this morning(I test every 2-3 days) and my alkalinity is 9.0. Ran the test twice on my 75 gallon tank. So I go to my BioCube(2nd tank) and test. Sure enough what was 8.8 on Saturday is now 9.9 this morning.

Anyone else run into this? Let me know if you have.

I shake the bottle before drawing out the reagent. I do not put the left over reagent back into the bottle.

7.9 and 8.0 is not that big of a change. Are you dosing 2 parts and what is you salinity on Saturday to current?

Reagents can vary up to 1.0 per bottle. You should always compare old bottle with new one before you swap so you know how much the difference is.

I am mindful of the Hanna Standards and very particular when I perform the tests.

I did not know the reagents can vary from bottle to bottle. Thanks for the info qchau.

That is true, it can vary from reagents. I’m the lazy reefer, so if the lot numbers are the same on the boxes I don’t bother to check it.
