Hi I recently bought some wrasses and I have had them for a week now doing the hybrid ttm. I didn't a water change this morning with hydro dip. But right now 2 of my wrasses are on the floor on thier side and breathing looks irregular. Othe wrasses have been in same quarantine and the look fine. I hit tank with prime incase ammonia gets it and do water change every other day to be safe. Can anyone help or tell me why. They are a red fin wrasse and a Scott's fairy wrasse. I have a video on reef2reef can't make video small enough to show here.

I have never done the hybrid ttm, but my input is my experience from general qt'ing.

Is the water well oxygenated?

Last time I was QT'ing, I added medication the night before, next morning 2 wrasses were laying on their side. Behaving same as yours. My other fish were fine, just like yours. I had a good hunch it was the medication lowering the oxygen levels, so I just added an airstone with a pump and within 15 mins, both wrasses were behaving normal again.

not really a ton to go on there, but echo that wrasses are difficult to qt and i'm with tamberav that fairy wrasses especially seem to not do great in httm. if i pick up more of them non-qted i'm going to copper them probably

idk if it's the h2o2 baths or what, but they just seem to die, usually from broken spine which makes sense because i try to use small tanks for httm

Do you have any hides in there? PVC pieces work well to give them some shelter and reduce stress. Stress is the #1 killer of fish. As long as you're not overfeeding and removing leftover food, then I wouldn't worry about ammonia too much. Wrasses are by far the most difficult to QT.

I just watched the video. Those look like two wrasse that were just reintroduced into a tank to me? They aren't blowing in the wind, they looked very stressed. I always went with medications and observation when I QT'd . I know a ton of people have success with TTM and hybrids but all the handling and environmental changes just seemed like added stressors to me. I liked a QT with a seasoned sponge filter, lots of added oxygen where I could feed pretty heavy and medicate as needed.

Best of luck, hopefully they are doing well now? I know humblefish has a site that is just about dedicated to fish QT, that would probably be the best source to get advice for this specific approach and species.
