Just had a slab leak in my house and now need new flooring requiring me to move my tank from the house to the garage. While moving I would like to refinish my stand. I had it custom made 7 years ago, but now has some water damage. Structurally intake, but needs sanding and refinishing. Does anyone have any contacts in the Orange County area?

Thanks

Bummer on the slab leak.. that sucks. Might want to ask one of the contractors that are going to do the repair if they want some side work.

Sanding and staining is pretty easy. How big is it? Do you know what material it is? Are you staining a similar color? You're going to want someone to poly it to I'm guessing, unless you wanna do that part yourself.

I've been working with wood for 20+ years. I have some time for a project if you don't find anyone.

Hi!!
Thank you for your offer. I somehow was able to talk my husband into supporting a new tank and stand build But would be interested in figuring out how much you charge to refinish a stand

Sounds like you married the right man!

It depends on the size really. Also on the molding. I am more of a bored guy looking for a project and to help out a fellow reefer then someone looking to make money. I enjoy doing restoration work. Cost of materials and a cool SPS/LPS frag or two would be awesome for me. If it is a 400g tank, it better be some damn nice frags though...I'm not doing an 8 foot tank for a piece of GSP ;)

Would love a bigger tank, but space is an issue and cost. I’m going with a crystal dynamics set up with metal frame, hood and panels that can be removed. This will hopefully make the tank and stand bullet proof to water damage.

Restoring the cabinets not worth it since there all melamine. Build one from 2 x studs, metal frame, or go modular with extruded aluminum then skin it with LDPE, HDPE, or UHDPE and/or plywood, hardwood. I would seal and top coat with oil base. Oil base more durable and less frequent touch up with water base poly. Lacquer would be my choice.

Good call. If you are serious about keeping the reef for a long time, I think CD or any company with metal stands is a great choice. You can always swap out the skin as well.
