How DEEP or SHALLOW should sand be???

It should be either less than 2"(SSB) or more than 5"(DSB). In between just causes too many problems.

I say depends on what you need. If you have diamond gobys you may want a lot of depth for your sand bed. Some gobys (Jaw Fish) need at least an 8" depth.
My tank has spot with 5", some spots with 1", and a lot in between.

I started of with about 3 to 3 1/2 inches, after 2 years, it's now 2" in some spots and 5" in other spots, I tried a couple of times to level it off, but the fish keeping putting it back the way they want it, So I just left alone, to me it looks more natural.

that's too funny... i have the opposite problem. my sand keeps leveling off and i keep trying to make it look not leveled.

i personally like a deep sandbed btw... i guess all the stops at ali's shop has rubbed off on me.

if you use surger sand then 4 in is perfect i have that iin my tank for 3 years and no problems is better for deep sand but make sure its surger sized
