No idea it could happen this fast :(

covid related death, I’ve been in QT out in my trailer with the covid and the ATO had not been filled in days, pump went dry and the ATO was filled.... but since it was still pumping bubbles a few hours later, water was added to the sump which restarted the return pump, dumping 2 hrs or ATO+kalkwassrer. Reactor water into the tank. Death was sudden, the fish were jumping out of the tank. 1/2” coral branches were broken by fish slamming into them, now they are white and all is dead, even the bristle worms :(

1/2 gallon of vingar was too little too late.

opened my Co2 and needle valve on the calcium reactor and cranked up the carbon doses all the way

we’ll know in a few days if anything survived.

I had outbreak and gone in a matter of an hour or less more than 3x already and the only thing that survived were the mushrooms. Wish for a speedy recovery and if you need extra salt, I have some for you.

That sucks Mark. I know the pain O so well. Like 10y back I had a 150g that had a similar problem. I had a cheap solenoid on my cal reactor. The solenoid locked in the open position. Drained a full 20lb co2 with in a few hours. The pH was so low in the tank the aqua controller couldn’t read the true value. It stop at 3.0 or 4.0 pH. Everything was dead. All coral bleached and fish lying on the sand. I think I had 2 or 3 fish live.

It really does suck I am still in the trailer. I did catch coronavirus I was mild symptoms for about three days. No fever. My wife has been absolutely paralyzed with fear of coronavirus. I’ve had a negative test and been symptom-free for two weeks but I’m just staying out here for her Peace of mind but I have been coming in to do water changes with a mask on for the last few days. The water is finally cleared up enough that we can’t see the damage.

Damn! Sorry Mark!

What ATO pump are you using? Most won't run that long continuously unless I'm confused.
It’s the Eotech set to 30 ml/min. The problem is that no top off water was put in the reservoir for many days and the return pump is running dry for at least a day or two. So when the ATO was filled it pumped probably 2 gallons of kalkwasser into the sump but the sump was so dry that the return pump was just dribbling back until it started making noise when several gallons of freshwater was poured into the sump directly hours later which started the return pump going again. By that time the pH of the water in the sump Was probably 11.

Man watching a video f the aftermath makes it more painful. Sorry you had to go thru this, wish I could help. As a matter of fact, I’d be willing to donate a jawbreaker to you if you’d like, only problem is I live in Valencia by six flags. Pm me if you’re down to pick one up, I’ll throw in an extra random shroom.

Thank you to everyone who has offered to help be restart. I ordered a 50# bag of GAC on eBay I’m thinking I’m going to either get a cheep large canister filter or perhaps fashion a reactor out of a 5 gallon Home Depot bucket

I lost all my big fish, but I have 2 1 gallon buckets or large food pellets, i also just got 5 gallon buckets of magnesium chloride and calcium hydroxide, probably enough for a few years at my previous consumption levels .... now it’s a lifetime supply :(
