I had no idea how quickly you could kill everything in a tank

Mark,

Just came across this. It's Weds at 5pm - What ever I can do to help let me know. I have a spare 140g with stand if you want to move whats alive to that while you redo and rescape your tank. I also have a 100g horse trough. I know throwing out everything you have grown up is what hurts the most. Doesn't matter if it was free or $500. All the time and patience to make it bigger and make it yours that's the accomplishment.

For 3 years you have been telling me your tank is too full to take frags from mine. Well I guess now I finally get to give you some corals :)

If you still want to do the water change you can borrow my RO/DI - It's on a board and does almost 150g per hour.

Thanks Dave...

All that survived is a percula... and some bristle worms... and a few vermented snails and some aptasia and a lot of bubble algae.....

Actually, I think the vermented and aptasia died

Right now I'm just doing my best to export nutrients. I dumped 1/2 gallon of vinegar at the onset so I expect the bacteria to be fat and happy.

let me know if you want the BRS reactors. i might have a maxijet for it too
I do appreciate the offer however this is what I ended up with.

got some giant filter bags, filled them with enough GAC to almost reach the top of my 7” filter cups and just put an inch of filter pad over them to protect the GAC from detritus and silt

we dont know each other and im new here, but if you need, i have couple of bags of reef crystals I can offer for your rebuild
That is really awesome!

I think I’m 2 months from the tank stabilizing.

I could do a full reboot but then I have to spend 9-12 months cycling. I think I am just going to ride it out and keep dumping the skimmer cup.

The tank is completely overran with bacteria that I need to export right now.

Dumping skimmer cup 2X day

You should consider going bare bottom even if you don’t reboot.

I actually sucked out almost 1/2 my sand last night did a 60 gallon WC. I still need to cut out all my colony skeletons because the rock structure is now way too high. Tank is almost completely dead, som bryopsis survived and looks like some paly’s and Zola’s may survive... barely

I can’t even grow algae

Update, the cyano is receding quickly. The diatoms or dinoflagellate (I haven‘t gotten a confirmation either way) are weakening, the last week was a massive algae bloom and we just cleaned the glass to find several patches of bryopsis has survived the fluconazole.... I think I’ll treat again.

Nem is doing great, early photo and it hasn’t opened up yet. Of the 16 clown fish 2 are hosting the nem, 5 are hosting one corner of the tank, 4 are hosting another corner, 2 found their way into the refugium and 3 are MIA (probably in the overflow). 2 purple and one yellow tangs are fat and happy

Hey Mark, I’ve been culturing phytoplankton and it helped my with diatoms and increasing pod population. I just got my hands on some thalassiosira weissflogii and I’ve been culturing it. Thalassiosira weissflogii is a diatom that consumes silicates and out competes diatoms. I’m harvesting on Monday and I can give you a bottle for free. I’m in Jurupa Valley. Hit me up if you want one.

How’s the tank doing?

It’s settling in. I have some tester corals and a nem for about 6 weeks now. Fish are doing well, it’s a nice mix of tangs 2 X yellow, 2 X purple one PBT hawk fish, pseudochromis, manderan dragonet and 15 baby clown fish. I need a CUC but I’m waiting for the dinoflagellates to run their course. I have the tank temp set to 82 degrees and it’s really take it a toll on the dinos

I just figured out that I had the heater’s internal thermostat set to 80 so my nite time temps were dropping but now that’s fixed. I think dinos will be gone within a week.

Skimmer is still working overtime Though I think it may be pulling dinos out

here’s a photo of the skimmer 7 hrs after being cleaned.

I try to clean it every day now because this is what it looks like after about 16 hours

Thank you to everyone who has offered to help be restart. I ordered a 50# bag of GAC on eBay I’m thinking I’m going to either get a cheep large canister filter or perhaps fashion a reactor out of a 5 gallon Home Depot bucket

I lost all my big fish, but I have 2 1 gallon buckets or large food pellets, i also just got 5 gallon buckets of magnesium chloride and calcium hydroxide, probably enough for a few years at my previous consumption levels .... now it’s a lifetime supply :(

So, I’m about 90% sure the eBay carbon is what caused my 25,000% increases in Antimony. t took a few months to get it down with actual marine carbon and chelating agents like GFO and water changes but it seems like the tank is running on all 8 cylinders now.

reading should be 0.09 ug/l but actually was 22.49 ug/l

I’m ready to start adding some nicer corals now.
