I helped set up an IM 200 and 240, and those things were super heavy. We had 8 guys on the 240 and barely got it on the stand, so get plenty of help.

Has anyone actually use these skimmers before?

The ratings seem a bit wonky

  • Heavy - 350g
  • Medium - 500g
  • Light - 650

That sump that you listed was crazy expensive, that seems like a 250 dollar sump, I feel like Rip Van Winkle.

anybody got tips/advice on transferring rocks/fish? I have a few corals not sure if theyre worth transferring.

i was planning on getting some kp aquatics live rock to help cycle, but i do have a decent amount of fish still

5 clowns, yellow tang, powder brown tang, convict tang, stripey, yellow coris wrasse, christmas wrasse, starry blenny.

dont want to overload the system and slow the cycle down

Are you setting up with established rock or starting from scratch? If the latter, then I would suggest getting some real ocean live rock or established rock from a trusted disease free system. I would then do a fishless cycle by dosing ammonium bicarbonate until you get residual nutrients at a good level. Just moving a few corals, a lot of fish and very little established bacteria and turning on the lights is a recipe for dinos to take over in no time. Also, Unique has real Fiji live rock, it's not cheap, but a very good choice for getting the right bacteria.

My Tank Build
id love to go to reef octopus again but theyre so expensive
I was just going to recommend RO since it’s proven and easy to find parts. Look for a used one, but it does take awhile to find good deals.

If you buy new, everything today is expensive. And you finding out that big tank = big equipment = big money.

Issue with those is that they’re ridiculously expensive since they’re all acrylic

Most around this price range and they’re not as big as the IM, honestly leaning more towards the IM and just modifying it

It seems that the price of the sump is expensive to me, I am not saying it is a bad sump just the price as gone up since COVID, I am glad I bought everything prior to COVID. It is what it is now, and sadly we are not going back. The new, New.

Moving rocks from my current tank and adding new rocks, but yeah i will be most likely ordering rocks kp aquatics or live gulf rock

I'm a huge Tunze fan, but I guess it depends on budget and type of pump you like? For MP style pumps, I would definitely go with the Jebaos, but I'm not a fan of pumps only going in one direction and that have a narrow flow output. Gyre style pumps are good, but require a lot of maintenance keeping them clean (best practice is buying extra sets of cages and impellers). Octo Pulse 4's are pretty good and you can angle them slightly to aim them around, which is nice. I have a pair that I used with my Wave Engine and they moved a lot of water around, which I really liked on my temp tank. A pair of Tunze 6105's w/Orcas with some pumps in the middle would work nicely.
What are plans for corals, mixed, sps?
