I have a IM 40 AIO nuvo. The tank comes with an IM spinner attachment for the water outlet. That thing is awesome (for the price and function). It spins and redirects flow in a circular motion. For 1.5 year, I cleaned it out 2-3 times cuz I let algae grew into a thick mat on it. Soak into vinegar/citric….done. Put back into service . Why don’t they make these spinners for larger tanks (stronger flow application). ? Cuz If you direct this output correctly to work with/against your constant flow wave makers, it can generate pulse and some randomness.

I’ve seen other rotating/oscillating flow devices, they are expensive. (Not referring to the random flow generator volute….no oscillation). Running wave makers on pulse/random can cause premature wear. They are expensive comparatively to the spinner.

Is there a reason why the spinner doesn’t take off ? ….looks ?….. longevity ?…… doesn’t work with high flow pump ?

Thanks.

They made perpetual motion flow generators for a while, they had to be plugged to an outlet in but all they did was turn left to right. In the end it was just another point for a leak to occur and was a bulky item In the tank. Since the generation of power heads with varying power and scheduled controllability they have kinda been phased out, we’re now seeing the random flow generators like VCA similar variants more so suite the hobbyists. I had the spin streams on my IM 40 I ended up swapping them for the standard flare nozzles and using a Nero 5 just because the spin streams made a ticking noise every so often.

Yeah they do make these gear turning noises.

For those with failed spinners, did you ever find out why ? Failure point.

Thanks. Might learn from this

I can attest to these...HERE

I can't attest to how much waterflow coming in they can handle, but I used to run MJ1200's on them back in the day
Hard to tell from your post, but did you use the IM spinners and they stopped working for you ?

I used the Hydor Brand (not the IM brand) on a 50G for about 2 years and somehow lost them when I moved to a larger tank....they never stopped working for me, just need to keep them clean. They work as advertised. The problem is in the cheap plastic gearing, too much flow and they spin too fast and start skipping the gear teeth.

Ah. Ok. Can’t handle too much flow.
Thanks
