Are you starting a new build? Looking to diversify your tank's microbiome?

I've got your solution: The Rock Exchange.

I will exchange 1.5 pounds of your dry rock for 1 pound of live rock. I have two different culture systems. One with fully QT'd fish and the other is fishless. Both are seeded with every microbiome product available plus have been seeded with more then 11 species of Copepods, Amphipods and coralline algae spores. While this rock is not cultured under high light to reduce algae growth, there may be some forms of algae.

Cultures have been running for 6 months or more. Limited quantities are available.

BTW - this is perfect for when you gotten your aquascape completed and have a couple of pounds of dry rubble left over. Don't just through it in the sump, exchange it for cultured live rock to put in the sump.

Not to be offensive but wet rocks weigh more than dry rocks.the ratio of 1.5:1 becomes 1.5:.5
Just being fair.
Thanks.

What’s the biodiversity look like? (Sponges, worms, etc).

Also do you have pukani?
The biodiversity of the QT fish system is, of course much higher the the fishless system. It has sponges, worms, etc. The fishless system is, of course, safer from parasites, though I do do microbiome and eDNA testing on both systems occasionally to make sure I don't have parasites in the systems.

I don't try to identify the rock and separate it. This is a program to diversify your microbiome, so it really isn't designed to either build a whole display with live rock or even consider having these [ieces in your display. That being said the base rock that I used is inexpensive and I use it in all of my display tanks as the entire structure. I uasually take 6 months to cycle a new tank, even when seeding it with my own live rock, unless it is an emergency setup. I have spun up tanks in several hours to hold fish and coral with this live rock.

Yes, that is fair. I think your ratio is a bit off or the rocks would be floating on the surface of the water, but yes, wet rocks are heavier then dry rocks. I've taken that into account. I believe my trade value is fair.

Your trade value sir is unfair because the ratio of 1:1 is not equal. Apples to apples oranges to oranges. You cannot mix them sorry

The value of live rock is higher then the value of dry rock. It is a value proposition. Things that are the same weight and made from the same materials may have different values. It depends on the time and effort put into them.

If this were not the case I would gladly trade you my $1 bill for your $100. And I would do that for as many $100 as you have.

So you are proposing that I should trade one pound of live rock for one pound of dry rock. That means I sould give people my time, effort, knowledge, electricity, salt water, seeding materials, rent for starage over time, all other expenses that goes into culturing dry rock to live rock for free. Does that sound like a fair trade to you?

I like the idea but I think most of us have fish friends that we already do this with and we don’t weigh out the rocks and stuff. Usually I give rocks to friends that are starting up. I don’t even expect to have them trade. Cause I know one day in the future they’ll help me out.

But I feel that rock from a fish system is way better then a fishless system. This is my reasoning. So as humans we have beneficial bacteria‘s in our guts. It has been documented over many years that when people have gut issues they’re health suffers. I’ve even heard a story where a husband had to save his poop and take it to the doctors so that the doctor could transplant his poop into his wife’s colon. She was knocking on deaths door do to she had lost all her beneficial bacterias in her gut.

I would think fish poop would provide our home aquariums in the same way. It takes certain types of bacterias to break down and process fish waste.

I like the idea! Nobody is forcing you to exchange the rock.

This may be beneficial to others, and not fair in others eyes.

If this service doesn't work out, there is no harm/no foul.

Good luck sir! I really do like seeing your ideas and pushing for new services. Some may stick, some may be a bad idea, but love the idea of you trying new things that will benefit both you and the community.

Just start making your own man-made rock. If you have some skill, you can probably make money.
