sorry for all the questions guys, i am so noob. I think i set up my HOB refugium(the one with protein skimmer built in) wrong.

Is the water pump suppose to be in the refugium? or the main tank?

I've had it in the main tank so far and i can't get too much bubble.

Thanks

The pump should be in the main tank pushing water into the skimmer.

several things to check that could have an impact on skimmer-production:

- nothing is clogging the airline
- the hole on the pump where the airline attaches, make sure nothing is clogging it
- make sure the impeller and area around the impeller is clean and free of slime and junk

btw - what pump is it using?

there seems to be a back flow so the airline has water in it, the pump is rio 800, it produces very little bubble, i tried using the rio 1100 and there was no bubble at all, then i tried accela 1000 but still no bubble at all. So i am thinking may be i should be using very slow pump ..may be rio 600 or accela 600. My thoughts are the high pump doesn't work because of the big hose 5/8" that caused the back flow of water into the airline, so the smaller pump use only 1/2" and will have more pressure. (i am talking about the hose that connects the pump to the hob refugium intake). let me know what i am doing wrong. =)

Thanks guys

You may be running into a problem of water pressure, make sure your tank is full to the correct level and that the pump is relatively close to the surface. My HOB CPR 2 makes almost nothing if I let my water level drop an inch.

Try to blow air into the airline, if everything is working it should quickly overwhelm even the larger pump with very little effort; if not something is plugged/severely restricted. If you have a check valve or muffler on the airline try removing it (temporarily) to see if that helps.

Pictures are always helpful.
