Found a glass cup in the kitchen cabinet, so I drilled a hole in the bottom to make a feeding enclosure. Pretty simple. (I’ve helped my wife drill drain holes in ceramic pots for her plants, so this is pretty much the same.)

Then I just use a turkey baster, and squeeze in some reef roids and small eggs. Normally, the flow will just blow any food away or fish/snails would come steal it. But this is working well. Trying to see if I can keep the button scoly and acan alive.

Since I have a few bottles of DIY tigger and tisbe pods in my sump, I usually just add a splash into the sump and let the rest cook. Instead of that, now I will wait until night time, and add the live pods to this glass enclosure and hope the feeding tentacles will catch the pods. Sounds like a plan!

After going to see @wishntoboutside tank last night and how clean it is. I think I need to pick up the slack on my tank care. :D

I don’t think I have cleaned my skimmer since September, so definitely need to get around to that. I have the skimmer draining to my DIY 5 gallon skimmate bucket, so I don’t touch my skimmer for a long time. Getting lazy.

I just got too many DIY or honey-do projects. Need to fix my ice maker on my fridge. So need to empty the freezer and figure out what is going on. I’m expecting it’s an electrical issue and I will need to solder some wires. But won’t know until I empty it first and do some diagnosis.

I want to curse the Kenmore Elite refrigerator engineer that designed the wiring harness on the freezer door ice maker. Who in their right mind would put a pinch point on a frequently used door that inevitably cuts all the small electrical wires.

I had cut, splice and solder 4 of these tiny wires...while lying on the floor. FML!

If this doesn't fix it, I don't think I would buy Kenmore Elite anymore. May look into Bosch brand as I just replaced my dishwasher with Bosch, and it is dead silent. Wifey loves it.

Just put in a Bosch dishwasher a few months ago... Yes, crazy silent... I picked it up at one of those scratch and dent appliance places for $80. Except it wasn't scratched or dented... Came with full warranty so I figured WTH... After I installed it, I figured out why it was returned. According to the App it was ran 3 times. And there lies the problem. Yes you can run it without the app, but programing it to do so requires some patience. I imagine the previous owner didn't have a smart phone and/or patience... Lol...
I know you pissed that I got one for $80... But it was on sale for 50% off :p

You got a steal! $80? I paid more in taxes on my dishwasher, LOL.

My old dishwasher came with the house, so it was real old. Wifey hated it because it was loud and small, and when it finally died, she wanted to replace it right away. So I didn't have much time to shop around, I just googled the quietest one, and ordered the latest Bosch dishwasher. I had a custom door panel made, and installed it to match the other cabinets. Don't have to think about it from another decade (I hope).

The real good news is that I just saw some ice cubes in the ice maker. My job is done, and now to get some coke and rum.

Oh man, I need to make a coral nipple. That’s a great idea. I had thought about doing that with plastic but it would move around. I have glass drill bits but never thought about it. Great idea!

Everyone needs a coral nipple!

Pro-Tip: I put my glass in a plastic red cup, add a little bit of water to cool the bit, and drill it. Start the drill bit at an angle first, and once it starts to catch...then turn it straight to make the hole.

I use a turkey baster to get some of my tigger pods and tisbe pods from my DIY Snapple culture bottles. I put it in a shot glass, add a dash of reef roids....then suck it back up with my turkey baster...and into the coral nipple. I recommend doing this when the lights are out and their feeding tentacles are fully extended.

My button scoly looks way different when lights out, it's a full head of fuzzy tentacles. I think it enjoys the snack, we'll see if this feeding can help it recover and live long term.

Finally cleaned my skimmer and emptied the skimmate locker. Started to make a 55g of fresh saltwater to do a WC soon.

Tested the tank:

Alk: 7.7
Cal: 390
Mag: 1400
Nitrate: 8.1
Phosphate: 0.44

Dang, I could have sworn that my phosphates were under 0.1 a few weeks ago. I may have been adding a bit too much reef roids and spirulina powder to the tank, trying to feed the button scoly and acans.

Going to lower my phosphates with some LC and then set up my carbon dosing again.

Your nitrate is fairly low and carbon dosing consumes much more nitrate than phosphate. Not saying it’s a bad idea, just that you’ll need to dose a nitrogen source along with carbon to get any appreciable phosphate reduction.

Reef roids is so good at phosphate!

I walked by my tank, and I saw a ton of tiny bubbles in the water. Uh oh.

Looks like my sump water level is low, and traced it to my Tunze ATO is not working properly. Checked the power to the pump, and got 11.5V on the wire...but old pump is not working. Hmm...

So I ordered a new Tunze Hi Jet replacement pump. Will need to top off a couple gallons ATO manually until the new pump gets here. This pump better get here before end of year as I'm going on a vacay soon. Things always start breaking right before a vacation...

Ran out of spirulina flake food, so I just blended my nori sheets.

Fishes love it when I walk by the tank. I usually put out a sheet on a clip, but most smaller fishes can’t eat with all the big tangs going at it. Now I can broadcast feed the blended nori and all the fishes can enjoy.

Ive tried other various brands, mostly korean. Does the one pictured have a tougher consistency when wet? Prior ones I've tried for human consumption typically were too thin and fell apart easily. I do see the benefit for smaller fish, but it made a chaotic mess. Im a food dumper.

This is the brand I get from Amazon, it's auto delivered every 2-3 months. It's $16 for 100 sheets. I think reefers pick it because it is unseasoned and cheap.

I don't think it is particularly thick or thin. Probably thinner than the Reef specific nori, but those can be $50-70 per 100 sheets. Reef tax...LOL. Jimbo don't play that.

So the trick is to repeatedly fold this nori sheet smaller and smaller until it is a small rectangle...so the tangs can't just rip it apart easily. Put the folded nori on the clip (press hard on the clip so it bites into the folded nori), and it usually lasts for a couple hours.

All of my fishes love nori, especially my fat naso tang named Spike. He eats out of my hand, LOL.

They are! My naso has a great personality. He’s the biggest fish in the tank, but he never bullies any other fish. Just a chill and friendly guy. All he wants to do is eat, eat and eat some more. Definitely my favorite fish in the tank.

I rescued him when another reefer exited the hobby. I showed up to pay/pick up the fish and surprise…I had to catch him myself from his tank. Luckily I brought my swimming pool net, and the water was really murky…I just had to do it by feel.
