Cool - you’re much more handy than me! I just use my phone nowadays to fix things — call someone else to swing by. So…my icemaker is also broken, you’re bored this weekend right?
Just pick up the phone and call Subzero, they will fix it no problem. Just a couple dead Benji’s. Haha. You don’t even like ice. It’s too cold. No need, better for your health. :p

I'm just a youtube weekend warrior. LOL. I also clean my own pool, haha, I treat it like it's a big tank. Have to dose chemicals and clean it.

That’s why I bought those reusable “ice” titanium balls for my Old Fashion. Just rinse and put back in the freezer.

We got rid of our pool man since he kept nickel’ing and dime’ing us, charging $120 for a $12 bottle of “conditioner”. Our oldest son is the pool man now - lol

Mushroom update time!

For whatever reason, mushrooms love my tank. I always wanted SPS dominant tank, but since my SPS growth has been meh (takes a long time to grow out from booger sized frags)…the softies have really taken over the bottom of the tank. These JF raunchy red shrooms really bounce in my system. I have to prune them because they grow fast.

Here is a Doughboy/Bean Bag Yuma that I got from Arimiko43 in NY over a year ago. It keeps growing, it’s like 3-4” across now. As it has gotten bigger, the pattern and bounce is getting nicer.

OG’s been doing great. This guy is under a ledge and barely getting any light, and it’s growing well. Since this tank seems to grow shrooms well, I’m starting a OG back wall. All of my loose or baby OG, it’s going up on the wall. I just remember other people had those green striped mushrooms growing up their back walls. It might take 5 years to grow out tho, but I’m giving it a shot. That’s the fun part about reefing, trying new things.

Dude - I’m super jealous! I can grow SPS but can’t grow mushrooms that fast. When your tank is infested with OG Bounce and need some prunings, I’ll be at your front door with a bucket! ;)

Anyway, congrats man - love the first-ever OG Bounce back wall. That will be the coolest (and most expensive) back wall ever in the history of reefing! lol

Give you tank some more time, I think as it matures more, you might be surprised at what you can keep. It's the long game strategy. :p

I've been manually carbon dosing at night, a squirt here and there. It's working well. I think when I left for vacation last time, no one was doing that...and it really messed with the tank stability. My Vivid Insanity SPS grow-out contest frag RTN'ed and it was a white skeleton when I got back. Bummer. (But it wasn't looking great when I left, so it could be coincidence.)

But I finally took the time to set up everything up on a doser. It automatically doses carbon or nitrogen/phosphate when the lights come on in the morning. And I can leave for work travel/vacation and still have the same consistent dosing.

We just started the new Walt Disney Jr. grow out contest, so I'm going to try not to kill this frag and last to the end of the contest. :ROFLMAO:

Crossing my fingers that I setup everything correctly.

Sweet! I always have carbon dosing / phosphate control on dosers. It’s so much easier to automate it and spread your dosing across hours vs manually. Besides, it’s very precise vs me doing it. I’m currently dosing 15mL of vodka and 80mL of NeoPhos.

Be careful carbon dosing at night, there may be a pH drop and co2 may increase as well. When I carbon dose, it's usually first thing in the morning after the lights come on. The photo period usually counters the pH drop when dosing.

^Yeah, that's one of the main reasons that I switched to doser.

Mornings are hectic. I'm usually rushing to drop the kids off at school and go to work.

I'm actually dosing glycol now. I figure that carbon is carbon. Yes, another one of my wild science experiments.

I picked up a used Tunze nano ATO 3152 for my QT/side projects. Gave it a good cleaning and hooked it up. It ran really rough, so inspected the pump.

Yikes, rusted shaft and the pump is sealed, so it’s trash. Luckily, I have a spare pump. Good as new!

Had no idea that this stainless steel part could rust. According to Roger at Tunze, it is a possibility and maybe why they switched to a newer style pump that is serviceable.

Yeah, I would get the newer pump. That's something I'm going to do with all of my 3155's. Also, they're going to make one for Hydros that connects directly to their controllers. I'm not sure when they'll drop, hopefully soon.

I got my ICP results back after 1 month dosing my DIY A+K trace element dupe, and it's not pretty...lots of low or undetectable elements. So this leads me to believe that my dupe is not working well. Hmm....

https://lab.atiaquaristik.com/share/b716dc2e474077ec5f7f

Well, the choices I have now is to either tweak the formula or increase the daily dosage. I decided to bump up my dosage from 2ml/day to 3ml/day.

When I went to change my dosage...I realized that I never even started the program to dose the "A" part of the trace elements. Doh! So it's only been dosing the "K" part. LOL! Got that fixed and bumped up my daily dosage.

I will do a partial water change to balance the system.

The DIY experiments continue...

It's all trial and error, which is part of the learning process (which we never stop doing). I'll most likely use Isol8 and create a custom set of traces to dose daily after I'm done with the two bottles of TM A and K.

that was the case with my results. silicon was critically high in my rodi. fortunately it's normal in my display. I also just started dosing isol8 mt. all the elements in the isol8 were undetectable in my icp results, so it works out. I'll send another icp in about a month and maybe at some point I'll need a custom mix of traces.
