Okay, I'll be on the hunt for an used Tunze chic refugium light.

I already started piecing together some old equipment to make my aiptasia loveshack 2.0.

I see.you lost all sense of reason when you come along in this hobby far enough to want to grow nuisance critters. Why? For the fun of it!

LOL, well...I really enjoy these little experiments, and I plan to get some more berghia in the future...they will be able to have a safe space with plenty of food...after they grow bigger, then I will move them into my display to decimate the monster aiptasias. Some of my aiptasia in the display are 1-2" in diameter and it's growing a forest.

I've tried twice with putting berghias directly into my display, and failed twice. I think I didn't put enough in or the ones I got were too small, and probably just an expensive snack for my fish/shrimp at the time.

I learned quite a bit from Love Shack 1.0. It's a lot of work to keep a separate system to grow aiptasia. I will take those learnings and re-design 2.0, and make it more sustainable.

So I have a dilemma. My spawned baby holy grail torch is all grown up and now killing SPS. Half of the green SPS right to it has already died. I’m afraid it’ll be able to reach more SPS and OG bounces around it.

I need to cut it off, but it is pretty embedded in the rock. And torches are known to BJD (which to me is just their guts) and killing anything the brown stuff touches. It is on 1 piece of rock with 4 SPS above it attached, so it’s not the easiest thing to remove. I would need to get that whole rock out of the tank, chisel or dremel the torch off quickly and get the rock back in the tank so the SPS can live.

Here is the thread I made of the baby:

I guess naturally spawned torches do grow fast.

Big shout out to @Logan killer for hooking me up with the Tunze Eco Chic 8821 refugium light. It needs a little work and cleaning, but once I get a new power supply and DIY some magnet mounts…this is going on the aiptasia love shack 2.0 experiment.

very nice torch. could you leave it and move everything else out of its way? lol
It’s all on 1 big rock. The SPS have all encrusted around it. I think I’ll just have to dremel the torch as close to the stem/rock and pray it doesn’t get killed. It’s such a beautiful torch and a natural spawn too. Would be a shame.

I wanted to relocated it to the back wall, but the Tiger Knicks torch already took that spot. What is the consensus on torches touching each other?

I’ve had luck with torches touching. My only issue with that is when an Aussie torch touches an Indo. One loses then. But keeping Indos together has worked for me.

I have zero idea where these torches come from. Any way to tell?

I'm devastated. I found my powder brown tang stuck to my MP40, already dead. WTF is wrong with this picture.

It was fine this morning. No signs of any disease, pest or damage. He was the Alpha and chief bully in the tank. It eats like a pig and get all kinds of frozen, nori, pellets, etc. He was so much fun to look at because he's always crazy. He chases my Tunze magnet scraper when I'm cleaning the glass. And he's been with my powder blue tang and naso tang for a long time, and the leader of the tang gang. It's going to be hard to replace him.

Sometimes I hate this hobby. The tank was doing a lot better when I wasn't even looking at it.

RIP little buddy.

Very sorry for your loss, those are the worst kind. Do you have your MP40 on pulse mode? I lost a couple fish in the same brutal fashion shortly after starting pulse mode on my MP60s

Thanks everyone.

I might send in an ICP tomorrow just to make sure it's not something in the water. I don't think so since all the other fishes are totally fine, but I want to make sure no more fishes are affected.

I think I do have the MP40 on multiple different modes that they offer, and I see that I do have pulse during the afternoon. But it's been like for a long time. I just switched from pulse to tidal as a precaution, and see if that helps. Thanks for letting me know. Perhaps there is a long enough stop in the MP40, and the fish wants to sneak in there because there is algae growing in the powerhead.

I bit the bullet and removed the torch off this rock before it got big enough to sting the SPS above it. I took the whole rock out and used the dremel with a cutting wheel. The cutting wheel can only go so deep into the rock. So I had to use a screwdriver and hammer to chisel it off.

I dipped in iodine bath quickly and mounted it on a plug. The base is a little damaged when I chiseled. I hope it does not melt. Fingers crossed.

I plan to mount this on the back wall. @StanD are you still making single magnet frag rack? Or if anyone has one they no longer use, let me know.
