Snuck in a 50g water change this morning before the heat.

Overnight, the barrel water temp dropped to 85F. 2 large frozen water jugs got the barrel temp down to 83F. And then turn on the fan and chiller in the tank. The temperature barely moved in the display during the WC. Sweet...good to know that I can still do a WC during the middle of summer.

Hopefully, the cleaning and WC will help stabilize the tank.

Nice! Patience and consistency are the way to go. I need to do the same on my nano system now that I have some time.

Yo, the Faux Baller Reef is 3 years old!

To recap Year 3, overall, it has been a very good year...besides losing my springeri damsel and powder brown tang, I have not lost too many fish/coral. Corals are growing into small colonies, which is nice for a change.

As far as next year’s goal...I want to destroy the asterina stars and aiptasia...both have been a bane of my existence. My sand bed is also getting crowded. I'm always tinkering and DIYing, so there is always something to improve on the tank.

Thanks Matt! Your previous tank was definitely an inspiration.

Let me know when your tank is ready, and if you like something that is colony size...I will make a frag for you. A lot of my stuff are older OG pieces (GARF Bonsai, ORA stuff, Tyree, Vivid, Paletta). The creme de la creme frag that I bought from you when you shut down your tank....is now 90% dead...sigh, it still has a tiny little bit left and it'll be a miracle if it can come back. Fingers crossed.

Next 3D print project:

Desiccant recharger for ozone using a filament dryer. (Credit: Reefdudes)

Got a used Eibos filament dryer ($10, was broken which I fixed), PETG filament ($10), Bambu spool holder (free from coworker), solenoid valve ($25) and silica gel desiccant ($12). For ~$60 in the project, I'm willing to give this a shot.

Not sure how to hook it up to the ozone, I'll have to figure that out later.

Went to RAP Cali today. The best thing is that my son wanted to go with me, and check out the corals. He was shocked at some of the prices. He said we should start a frag tank. LOL. We bought a couple sheets of raffle, I put most of my tickets for the frag tank in the raffle hoping to start our new adventure. But it was not meant to be.

I did get 2 berghias from @moondoggy at the show, so hopefully these will start eradicating the aiptasia forest in my tank.

Crazy thing is that I didn't buy any corals. The life of a faux baller. :ROFLMAO: I did buy some Hanna reagents at 15% discount, so that's about it.

I know the feeling, I doubt I’ll buy anything, although I might have to buy a dwarf (jalapeño mangrove) from Julian. It was nice catching with you today, although it was a little brief. My throat is soar from talking about clams.
I need some berghia too, I might have to search for some of I get some free time tomorrow? I hear @ndrwater came out a champ at the raffle? :p

I'm not going today. Which is probably good for my wallet. LOL.

I need to just chill and get some work done around the house.

I always feel weird when I'm don't buy stuff from the booth, so I rather not take up too much time chatting. But it was cool to have the brief talk to catch up and look at the Noae clams. You don't see them often. Seems like a few members won good prizes at the raffle for sure.

Oh man, no worries, I’m there to talk and I’m not good at selling shit, just talk about the cool animals. I didn’t even get a chance to buy a mangrove, so I walked away with nothing. :D
But I did talk with a lot of great people and meant some new friends.

Keeping up with the Faux Baller lifestyle. :geek:

Time to bake some Arm & Hammer baking soda to make sodium carbonate. I’ll run out of my DIY alk 2-part in a week, so need to whip up another 5 gallon batch soon.

Good news is that my wife is not opposed to a small ~20gal frag tank. But it needs to be clean clean, which is much harder and pricey to pull off. Also, I need the frag tank stand to function as a cabinet to store my unsightly reef stuff (food, scrapers, tools, etc.). And need to move a piano to make some more wall space.

As usual, I would like to get a used lowboy/frag setup as not planning spend too much.
