I have an acrylic lid for this tank if you plan on hanging your lights. Free.

I just have to go get if from my buddy next time I'm over there.

TADA!!! Rocks are in!!!! And water is being filled as we speaks

I did notice that the left side is 1/4cm lower in water level than the right side after 2cm of water. Anyone have recommendations on how to correct that? I hope it won’t be too obvious when it’s filled to the top.

Tank is also 6.5” away from the wall so it’ll make cable management and miscellaneous clean up a lot easier.

This is something to be concerned about, especially with a Red Sea tank which has a reputation for having seams break. Having the tank not be level will put more pressure on that seal, and well, it's not good.

You need to level out the tank so it will be safe with water. That is a lot of water and a nice looking living room, safety is definitely a concern here.

Yeah, I did some research and man’d up. Disassemble the right side of the sump and made it even last night.

Thanks for confirming my decision!!

Nice aquascape! I’m slightly concerned about your high arch in the middle. Acros will easily grow above the waterline - guess that’s a First World’s problem then. Rule of thumb is build aquascape up to 50% of the tank.

This looks great so far - congrats!

Thank you for the compliment and the note. I used Marco E-400 so hopefully it stays in place. Yeah, the high arch is more of a fashion piece at the moment. Definitely a first world problem if my acros grow above the water line. I think I got a good 5” before that. Also the solution might be to put tabling acros in the arch section!

Best solution to acro's growing above the waterline I have seen is a store that put GI Joe charactes on top of the tables the acros make when they leave the water. :D

Now a little rant.

While filling up the sump area, the water started to leak from the extended sump area. The plumbing there isn’t as good as the ones they designed on the overflow. Luckily I made the distance between the wall and the tank 6.5”, otherwise it would’ve taken forever to clean up. This happened twice…

Time to invest in leak detection devices…

Also, I was never a detailed-oriented person but this tank is definitely testing my limits. So the front of my glass was leveled but the back of the tank was not… so I had to disassemble the sump to reach the levelers once again… this might be the cause to my leak issue as I got impatient and did not fully tighten the extended sump as this was going to be the third time doing so… anyways hopefully this is all behind me and I can enjoy the tank soon!!

P.S. this is the first time the wife has experienced leaks before and kudos to her in not freaking out and reprimanding me haha..

Latest picture, added Dr.Tim and microbacteria along with some flow. Also added 3,000 copepods, hopefully these will reproduce as there aren’t any fish in the tank yet.

Trying to plumb my manifold into the return. Does anyone know where I can find the plumbing parts to the return? I found the bottom part, but can’t seem to find the top part, is it a standard plumbing part? That’s why I can’t find it?

Congrats on the new tank! I setup a 850G2 that just hit the two year mark. I’ve loved the tank so far.
The plumbing is metric I believe on the redsea tanks so if you’re trying to adapt a manifold to the existing plumbing it may be difficult and you’d have to order fittings.

I ended up using two return pumps. One with a direct shot to the tank and one going to chiller/uv and back to the tank. I used all the Redsea plumbing and just went with the provided barbed connectors off the return plumbing that Redsea provided.

I had the same issue with a leak to my extension sump when it was first setup. Ended up being a faulty rubber gasket that redsea replaced at no charge. I recommend using Molykote lubricant on these bulk head gaskets. You can find it on amazon.

Good luck with the tank! I have enjoyed mine and was out of the hobby for an extended period before jumping back in too. I got the bug bad again and recently within the past couple months plumbed two more shallow lagoon style tanks into my main 850G2.

Here is my setup going at my office.

Thanks for the note! Yeah… it’s taking more work to try to plumb it into the existing one. I might have to do the same too. I’ll look up the lubricant.

Thanks again. Gorgeous tank!

Careful using lubrication on bulkhead seals. They are not designed to be used that way. Best case it won't do any harm. Worst case it can temporarily patch a defective seal causing a potential leak in the future. Be careful when tightening because the lubricant will reduce the torque giving you the perception to keep tightening which can cause the seal to slip and shift out of position. If you have the time I would pull the sump and sump extension out and water test in an open area so you can see where the leak is coming from and address accordingly. Good luck!
