Wood stands are great and can last forever when built properly and sealed to keep moisture out. I built my nano system with wood (it's not perfect), but it should last for a long time. Watch the Tidal Gardens videos on the new building and their stands. You can see how they're put together and use the same concepts for smaller stands, etc. Once you understand how they should be designed, it's pretty easy to make (design) your own.
Will do! (:

Today’s results. Not bad, but could use a little more fine tuning. CaRx will increase to 14hrs and kalk slightly increased by 120mL. I’m sure those clams are sucking up some alk. I’ll post some pics after I get some cleaning done.

I’m giving these guys the best home I can and I hope to keep them growing. Thanks to @dansyr I’m the new caretaker of these awesome specimens. There’s another Red Sea maxima that’s not in the pics, but I’ll update some time next week. Tridacnas (and hippopus) fucking rule!

Thanks for adopting my favorite critters, i'm really hoping the ones that suffered a bit the last couple months will bounce back for you. Good to see that the big derasa still has some of the greenish shades in it under your lights, i was always curious if that was a trick of being close to a green LED on mine but nice to see it in another tank.

Thank you! I will do my best to give them the best home I can. Yeah, the large derasa has some really nice colors and the greens are quite noticeable.

You must be a Clam Maniac, one of Clam Mania's customers lol (Hulk Hogan has the Hulkamania, the Ultimate Warriors have the Warriors, and Clam Mania has Clam Maniacs) lol

Well, poking around the tank at night is fun, it’s always cool to see what little critters come. Looking at one of the pieces of Fiji rock, I spot this little urchin. I haven’t looked up an ID yet, maybe too early to tell, but I now know it’s in there and will look to see what happens next? To me, this is the fun part of reefing, figuring out what’s lurking at night.

Today’s parameters. Not bad, NO3 a little high for my taste, but I’m not worried. Unfortunately, the hippopus didn’t make it. I was so hopeful when it started to puff up, but the other morning it started gaping and then the tissue below the inhalant siphon separated, which is a death sentence. Clams are like fish (and corals, and pretty much everything else we keep in our tanks) to me, so it’s hard losing them.

Your dog is awesome! What kind is he?

Congratulations on all those clams from dansyr! I suck at keeping clams in general (don't ask me how many I've killed over the years lol), but I WILL say the hippopus (sp?) is one of the easier ones for me. Mine's going on 3 months <---that's a HUGE accomplishment for me! haha

and @dansyr (not to derail the thread), but I'm so sorry to see you go. Your 20L was one of my favorites on here

Italian mastiff aka cane corso. He’s a good boy, but still needs a lot of training. I love clams, they’re one of my favorite reef animals. Hippopus are funky weird clams, but they’re super cool. Just give them a ton of full spectrum light and have some available nutrients and you should be fine.
