For those that use them, which one do you like and why? What size tank do you have?

I am thinking about the Avast Marine K1. A friend has one and likes it. How much flow do you typically put through these? I've only ever added kalk to my top off water.

I have a avast on my 120. I just run my ato pump straight into the reactor.

I'm lazy and don't test. Avast actual has 10 percent off for labor day.

I agree with Dave. Not from personal experience so don't take my word for it. My reasoning is I'm just scared of the type of concentration a kalk stirrer can potentially dump into your tank. Definitely should have some redundancies in place to monitor and control Ph.

So like in an ATO res? @imamrhappy
I wouldn't put it in my ATO due to variation in evaporation depending on the season.

Id have a separate container hooked up to a doser so that you can control the amount of kalk going into the tank.

Curious BeanMachine I thought you're going to set up a calcium reactor? Are you struggling with Ph or something to make you consider kalkwasser? Or is this a temp solution until you set it up?

Temporary solution is what I was looking for. May just set up a two part doser. I don't want to add the kalk to my ato res... thought that the stirrer would be less maintenance.

Tunze makes a pretty easy to use item. I think youll end up using it when you set up your CA reactor. Id imagine your evaporation will be similar year around. Chiller and ac right?

so what i do is i have a old school magnetic stir with the little pill. i have a small aqua lift pump that shares the same water from my ato. set the pump on my apex outlet. if ph is over8.3 off turns on for 30 seconds a day 2x a day. work your way up to more time. this should take care some of your evap water. also have an ato pump if i evap more than normal

ca reators usually lowers ph. running a kalk reactor helps bring up the ph

Ive used them all and will only buy the ones with a cheap maxi jet recirc pump. The pump needs changing out every 3-4 month, so a $20 400gph pump is acceptable, and certain reactors it is quick and easy to do when full. Stirs plates failed very fast as I make a supersaturated slurry with vinegar. When i ran it non stop the plates failed in 6 months and they are hard to change out. Intermittently running made the stir bar settle in thick slurry & didnt spin, overheating the stir motor fast and making life even shorter.

My kalk stirrer philosophy of use was for pH balance and impurity precipitation (kalk went straight into the DT, highest flow area) as the amount of Ca, Alk it could deliver was not enough to meet the needs of an sps reef without decreasing the salinity.
