Hey Gang

I have an electrical question today. I picked up two (Koralia Evolution 1050 Circulation Pumps) and a (Reefkeeper Lite) for my new tank build. I was wondering if it is safe to plug them into a regular outlet/plug that is controlled by a (Slide Dimmer) like one you would use for a light in your house. The idea is I would be able to turn down the pumps but still control the on and off timing with the Reefkeeper without having to buy a new/different controller for another $100. Please see the illustration below. I would be wiring this in the normal wall jack box with a faceplate in my stand. Let me know if you think there is a problem with controlling the Koralias output this way.

Many Thanks!
Nick

I'm not sure about problems really, but it could take a toll on the motors as they are designed to have a constant amount of power supply powering them. The way a slide dimmer works is it adjust the power that is going to the light bulbs. Same thing here, although I am not sure if the koralias can handle that?

you're going to blow up the controller... make sure it can handle the amps of the pumps...

i thought you were going to get an electronic/programmable potentiometer...

Dude each one is only 5 watts and the controller doesn't pull any weight only the DC4 does. +1 on the potentiometer. The dimmable switch was easier but something to think about.

hmm... after researching the pumps... this might work...

but... i wouldn't use a wall dimmer... i would get a built in dimmer receptacle... when rewireing my pad, i found them and thought about getting them for like my room and bathroom...

it has an outlet and a touch/slide dimmer in the same one... instead of having two of them...

oh... and it will work... but i don't know if you're going to need diodes or rectifiers to keep the pumps from starving... or i don't know since they are made for wavemakers they probably have them built in...

hmm...

i think it should work...

good luck...
