Hi guys,

I recently purchased a 36" Metal Halide Odyssea light fixture, which seem to work just fine until recently! After about 1 week of use the ballast gave out! I did some research about this particular problem and it turns out that its a common problem...the sad thing is i should of did this research before i even made the purchase in the first place. ( lesson learned )

Now that Im stuck with the fixture i thought i purchase a new ballast and put the fixture itself to use...since its a fairly decent looking fixture. The problem i have is that I dont know what to expect when it comes to replacing the ballast.

The plan is to purchase the Icecap 250Watt ballast; the fixture metal halide is prewire to a male cord. Does the icecap ballast have a female input for me to plug and play? ( this description sounds so inappropriate :hmmmm: )

or

will i have to Rewire the fixture metal halide to the icecap ballast?

Please guys!!! Help me out here! My corals are in dire need of light! :bawling:

oh yeah, should i go with icecap ballast? or Hamilton ballast?

is the ballast external or internal ? if the ballast is external you can wire it into any ballast. Internal make it a little harder.

If it's external and you want to purchase icecap ballast, call us and bring that hood to us and we will help you wire into the ballast.

monkeyreef -- sorry to read about your loss. Perhaps you can go back to the mfg? or whomever you purchased it from?

thanks kajung2k, i should of purchase the 36" metal halide you were selling LOL.

i decided to go with the Lumatek 250W http://www.marinedepot.com/ps_ViewItem.aspx?idProduct=LK1115. The Lumatek ballasts come wired with a standard female lamp cord receptacle. So I can just plug in my metal halide fixture directly into the ballast without wiring.

The ballast is external, so it should be pretty easy. If i change my mind with icecap ill keep you in mind :top:
