My Tank Build
#2
I was thinking of building a light stand out of aluminum bars to hold two quanta pro bars or buying the tank stand mount Luca sells on his website. I would appreciate any pictures, advice or ideas. The picture below is a general idea of what I what to build.
Different design, but I drilled/bolted mine into the back of my stand and it sits flush with the tank with some felt liner padding in-between. The forward bars are customizable, so any combo of lights works if it can be attached to T slot.

Or you can go to Home Depot and make it out of wood LOL Once you're done, simply slide it behind your tank in between the wall and the weight of the lighting fixture will give enough retention to hold the stand in place(y)
The quanta pros are 3 lbs each the space I have behind the wall is like 3-4 inches if I recall correctly.

I am getting the middle bar piece mount custom made, it will save me from have two square bars running parallel with the light bars as support.

It's kind of ghetto but it works great :) I think the 6lbs weight should be safe for this set up. I used this for my full sized (non compact) Orphek V4 LED which is about 5 lbs, it's super heavy, and it worked just fine. The space behind your wall, it being 3-4 inches, is not a problem. What I do is lean this set up against the tank stand and whatever space is left between the tank stand and wall, I put a small box (my space is about 6 inches) to hold it in place. You'll just have to find something that works. The weight of the lighting fixture hanging on this set up leaning against the tank stand is really what give the retention needed to hold the set up in place.

late to the party, but thought I'd share what I did. I plan to extend the 2040 extrusion and add a quanta helix bar to the front of the tank. I might need to add a brace for little more support.

I wish I attached mine to the stand when I first got this tank but, what is done is done. So I will probably either just buy the tank light mounts from quanta reef or build my own. If I build my own I just want to use aluminum square tubing or just wood to keep the cost down as much as possible. If I use aluminum square tubing I think it will cost me just as much as buying the tank light mounts.

Why not mount it on the wall like Joeoliver? It's very clean and can be done now. Just have to find the stud.

So I do not want to drill into the wall, I would rather have it where I can move or take it apart as needed.

So I ended up buying the reef lights mounts on Luca's website. I would just need to put cable tie mounts to the top of the tank to keep it from being pushed over or moved.
