So I recently started my 225 gallon reef tank. Most of the livestock is moved from my 90 gallon plus a lot more live rock. Right now I have a blue tang, foxface and two clowns and about 200+ pounds of live rock with some polyps on them. My lighting right now is 4 T5 daylights and 2 T5 actinics and I was wondering if metal halides are going to be a necessary addition to my lighting. My tank is 30" deep. Is my lighting sufficient or not? I don't have any experience keeping corals in such a large tank so I want to make sure I'm getting the lighting that I need.

I have the same tank, so far I have 4x80watt and 2x54watt HOT5, I tried two 250watt MH on Lum3 with the Giesman 14k bulb and its was no where near as bright as the T5s. If your gonig to do MH do 2x 400watt radium 20k with one of the larger reflector. If you feel the need you can slap a 250 in the middle later on. I plan on 8x80watt HOT5 total.
