It will depend on the mixture of your inhabitants if you don't have much or no SPS i would suggest T5 less electrical consumption with normal wattage less heat too.

I have to say that if you DID want to have a lot of SPS you could still have an amazing tank while using T5. I know there is a lot of tradition with MH but I have seen BEAUTIFUL tanks that are running on just T5s and getting the same if not better color results and growth.

Lighting is not every thing other factors contribute to growth and colors lighting just enhances that.

T5's get better and better but if you do want to go with a lot of sps thay say you need 8-10 watts per gallon wich can get expensive depending on tank size. Try www.catalinaaquarium.com they have very afforadable retro fit kits.
