If u read it years ago, it had changed. Please re read. Since then there has been alot of scammers.
1. Members must have at least 30 post before selling on the forum. (Meaningful Post does not mean bumping threads with simple comments like "Nice tank". It means contributing something knowledgeable or an experience that will benefit other members of the community.

Why not be a contributor and part of the community instead of just trying to profit off us

Why not be a contributor and part of the community instead of just trying to profit off us

Not a very welcoming tone so I don’t appreciate that and it doesn’t stimulate or encourage positive engagement it just makes waves… I spent several hours today contributing to the community and looking through many different topics and forums. From the first reply to my thread you could have been helpful and let me know why I didn’t meet reqs to post and I would have gladly addressed it instead of just flagging me to mods for deletion, it really was an honest mistake. The new member reefer562 actually helped and pointed out my issue and wasn’t condescending about it so we’re the other comments. I have been a member of several other forums and looking for a new “home” after socal reefers sort of died during the update.

I’m really not trying to profit off you or anyone, if anything, the things I’m selling are at high discount compared to retail or other shops and I almost always give free corals to other reefers. Some pieces I sell mini colonies for the price I paid for a single head or a tiny frag.

I gave away several nice pieces for free and additional combo price reductions to 3 separate people that came by today and had valuable in person discussion with them about systems/practices and stories as well as made them happy by having things to add to their own tanks. I also had several pms about the post from people that were excited to get corals. I feel like that’s what this community is supposed to be about, helping each other get results/goals that we want and making friends in the process.

If mods want to delete this thread that’s fine. Feel free to check my posts and engagement today I feel it was productive and it got others to engage. I hope to continue to be a part going forward and meet more of you in person.

You can start build thread, and maybe show us how you go about your tank maintenance/routine and what has proven to be successful for you?
Thanks for your suggestion I have a long established bigger system that’s super low maintenance I hardly to anything to it maybe a couple water changes a year and cut frags when things grow too much. I typically prefer to interact with others posts and the DIY type stuff rather than lead threads. I may do a build when I move next year. The only success I’ve had in reefing is to not overcomplicate anything and I only learned that from trying way too hard for way too long haha

You are placing tone into anything I say. Letting you know to reference forum rules is good enough. Form the ability to navigate the forum and lost things, you are not new to forums, thus should be familiar with very basic requirements and guidelines. You have contributed nothing but sale threads prior to today’s attempt of getting it all done last minute. That being said, selling means profiting, regardless of what you may deem a good deal or not. As stated before, be part of the community and contribute (not just for one day throughout outdated threads). Don’t victimize yourself. Everyone is held to the same standards. You nor I are special.

I have no problem abiding by the rules I had previously posted so I didn’t understand the violation. Yes I use other forums but I have never ran into the issue of having no problem posting before for multiple years then not being able to post.

Not being a victim just stating how it came across and the wording choice was not constructive/helpful. Everyone else was constructive. You said “instead of just trying to profit of us” which means you think the sole reason I’m here is for no other reason than to profit and by saying “us” it comes across as though you’re trying to protect yourself and everyone else from me like I’m barging into your community and doing something wrong by trying to sell.(not welcoming)

If you lose money on things it’s not a profit imo but we can agree to disagree I suppose. When we sell, swap and meet up/have people come to our houses it’s a real life reef club and not just online so imo that’s actually just as valuable to people if not more valuable to be in person and talk about the hobby look at systems and share with each other but you may see it differently.

I get the point of trying to stop spammers, I agree. Today is my first day contributing to other posts, like I said I hope to continue that. I spent several hours looking through all the forums and frankly there wasn’t that much going on to comment that’s why I had to find old posts. If you read my posts I didn’t just shit post and try to skirt the system by saying I made my posts like you imply, again very condescending. Sometimes there is a lot of value in the older posts and by commenting them it brings them more into awareness for others that may be looking for the same info because it’s a quality post that fell into the archives. I actually found some great info on some posts and got several interactions of comments/likes as well as a pm from a member from my interactions, so isn’t that the whole point?

The req is 30 messages it doesn’t say more than 1 day or over 1 week or 1 month or 1 year. If you have an issue with that or they way I did it maybe suggest to mods to change the reqs and be more clear like “ must have more than 30 posts over a period no less than 14 days with no more than x number of posts per day etc so it would require people to log in daily or encourage more interaction.

I just call it like I see it/interacting/being constructive, like you said no one is special so we can all learn from each other including you and how you “approach” new members. It’s entirely possible you might entirely disagree with me and think I’m a piece of :poop: but I respect your right to have that opinion. I feel like we just got off on the wrong foot maybe it was just bad timing and it happens so it’s all good. Regardless I appreciate the discourse since that’s part of the community purpose as well to have differing opinions(y)
