what do you have in there?

Have you tried using your filter without the biowheels? I hear it keeps the nitrates down.

I use mine without the biowheels. Its basically filled with liverock to the top.. i use the filter filled with liverock.

currently ive got
1 blue green chromis
1 percula clown....sebae anemone to come
2 p.j. cardinals
1 blue velvet damsel
1 yellow watchman goby
various snails, hermits and 2 emerald green crabs, used to have bubble algae, but it is no more.
i'm upgrading my circulation today with some powerheads.
my nitrates almost never indicate on a test occasionally i'll get a 5ppm, but i have great natural filtration and small fish so not too much waste is produced.
nothing the skimmer can't handle, but i'll keep the biowheel in mind if i hit a problem.
