Awesome build! Very clean and thought out.

I previously had a similar AA sump/refugium setup. I can’t tell in your picture, but I ended up having to drill a hole (also added flexible tubing for air) in the refugium drain back into the sump. Reason being every time I started up my return pump the refugium would overflow, being that there was no air it overflowed before creating a full siphon. Not sure if that will be the case for you, maybe I had too much flow or too small of a return pipe. Just wanted to share in case it was an oversight!

I can post pics tomm. I have my fuge set up as gravity fed. I will be adjusting the flow down to low low tho.

Thanks for the additional pictures. My setup was similar. What I had to do is drill a hole in the refugium drain (your second referenced picture), and put in some tubing to break in from being a full siphon. You might not need to do that if the flow is low enough but thought I’d mention so your refugium doesn’t overflow upon start up!

Again, awesome setup!

Did your pipe go all the way down? Lower than the refugium water level? I plan to keep high up

what would you say the maximum coverage on orpheks?

I would say 40"x20" conservative and 48"x24" at most and that's with the light fixture hanging about 20" to 24" above the water line. It depends on tank set up. If you have a 48"x24" peninsula tank with corals on every side of the tank then it's going to be a little challenging trying to find the sweet spot because the corals in the middle are getting so much more light than the ones placed on the front/sides/back. On the other hand, if you have a 48"x24"conventional front view tank then you should be fine since the corals are going to be placed mainly in the middle and towards the front of the tank.

Good point, I didn’t think of that.

My drain pipe terminated below right below the water line in my sump. If I remember correctly, my logic was to minimize splashing resulting in less noise and micro bubbles.

To be honest, I don’t know if the drain PVC was removed, and had the water drain directly from the bulkhead if it would have made a difference in sound or micro bubbles. I might have overcomplicated things lol

Hahhaha no I totally understand I’m stuck at that part right now…I didn’t add a pipe cause of the siphon part but fear the micro bubbles. Not too worried about splashing. But I figured I’d try without the pipe first and then add a drain if needed. And exactly I can always drill a tiny hole in the pvc to break siphon

Looking killer!!! Can’t wait to see it in a year
hahahha thanks man. It’ll be awhile. Just want to move what’s left from my garage system. Not much left from the crash. Eventually I’ll get to the floating canopy for it

Wow, you put that tank together in no time. It looks fantastic! It’s good motivation for me to finish setting up my tank.
