After a few years, my PVC/acrylic sump is leaking right around 2 of the windows. It started off as salt creep on the windows right where they bond with the body of the sump.

This is very disappointing because this sump/ATO/fuge combo cost about twice as much as my first used car :(

I’ve contacted the fabricator and he has agreed to repair the leaks. I’m a bit concerned as I have spent a fair amount of effort to make my under tank area look neat and tidy. I’m not saying who at this point but the manufacture is a well known and rather “advanced” fabricator with a reputation for being rather flakey on occasion.

I’ll post photos but bought a 40G acrylic tank used here to be a temp sump while the repairs are being made. Hopefully the vendor can complete the work inside a week as he has stated.

That sucks! Hopefully they'll come through and do the right thing? Two things in this hobby that I think are way overpriced (there's more but...) sumps and ATO reservoirs. Two things that are designed to hold water and barely seen, but somehow cost 4x the price of the materials (probably 10x). Good luck!

The cost of acrylic is pretty high and John’s craftsmanship is amazing.

I think the cost for the set was around $1,600 but you aren’t just paying for materials and labor, you have to pay for the cost of the shop and the tools or the manufacture goes out of business.

They sell my setup for $1,975 and they new version doesn’t have a window in the sock section anymore (which is where mine first started leaking)

I’m going to see if they can air weld a red bead around all 3 windows.

This type of sumps leak a lot of the times. Usually near the window area. It sucks to hear that from you. You should contact John @ AA see if he can do something.

Well I’m glad I tested out my temporary tank because it’s leaking like a sieve. I have some wild on 16 and I am patching it up and will have it ready to go

this temp sump seems to be home made and the back pannle didn’t seem to have even been glued on either side. I had to spread the panels with a small screwdriver and force Weldon 16 in the crack. Le
If that doesn’t work I got a glass sump you can use

thanks, it held water overnight!

I have the same sump and worry about it leaking in the future. I hope it all turns out and the bonding improves. Are your viewing panels welded on the inside all around? They are incredible sumps and make for a super clean look.

I don’t think they can get at the sock holder form the insde without cutting out the sock holder

I’m hoping they can air weld a red bead around all 3 windows from the outside

That sucks but nice work. Hopefully you'll find a replacement controller.

I bought mine used but it had already been repaired for the same issue. It didn't have the sock window though. They re-welded from the inside on mine.

Can I see a photo of the repair? Did AA do the repair or was it a DIY job? The more I think about it, I think I may just do the repair myself.

I did find a used orange label classic used locally.

It was a loooooong weekend. Besides the APEX going out and my backup from 2020 was corrupted, my kid accidentally unplugged one of the EB8’s and the apex saw that EB8 through aquabuss which caused Horus and hours of troubleshooting. Once I found that, I had FUBARed the programming so bad that it would not find that EB8 and I ended up having to delete from fusion and initialize the base unit and reprogram again from scratch!

for more fun and excitement, one of my ballasts died right in the middle…. Lucky I had bought a set of spares in 2019 so that only took an hour.

I probably spent 14 hr both Saturday and Sunday working on it, so nice to be back at work where I can relax.
