look into change order forms, when your clients add more task/work to the original bid have them sign a change order form always document everything and ALWAYS keep your clients informed!. good luck!

Recording someone without permission is NOT illigal especially if they are surveillance cameras of his property, you might be thinking about phone recordings. Second it isn't "borrowing" if you did not have permission. Facts are facts and your in the wrong. If you try to explain why, all you will be doing is solidifying the fact that you took something without permission and only returned it after discovered. Up to you if you would rather risk court, just My 2 cents. GL

Ur partially right, but it is also against the law to extort someone which is pretty much what the homeowner is trying to do.

I know for sure the you cannot record some one with out let the person know the his been record...that so illegal!!!!
It's only illegal in a private location, like restroom. But have the us government told you that you'll be on video every day u step foot out side your house. Just about every street corner is being recorded. Also every freeway in ca is being recorded. If someone wanted to they could fallow u from la to Palm Springs with out leaving an office chair.

sucks, but i think you're screwed on this. your intentions don't really factor into the law if the guy decides to press charges. ultimately, you took his property and he has you on tape.

the police are obligated to respond to every report, and while a police may scoff at the guy for making a dumb call to the cops, they will still file a report, which the guy can then take to small claims court as evidence against you, which will be pretty damning against anything you may be able to bring, because it'll fall short of a police report.

you got screwed on this, i'd go back to the owner, admit that you took it without thinking about it, and call it good at 1400.

if he insists on extorting 200 from you, let him know that it's going to be his time and his dollar to file with the police, go to the police station to get the report, go to the small claims court to file a claim, filing fee, then find and pay for someone to serve you, then take time out of his day to show up to court, to try to get 200 back for services you've already performed, and have returned his blower, and have text messages showing that he's trying to extort money.

I'm guessing he won't want to go through all that hassle.

Give him the blower back and call it a day. This guy is not going to take you to court for $200 that you didn't agree to and you are not going to take him to court over $100 either. I know it sucks but I would just walk away after you give him the blower back. Recording the exchange is a good idea too. Good luck.

that's the anger and frustration talking.

it's best to just give the blower back so that you're not on the hook for theft, and leave it at that. consider it a $100 lesson learned.

all the hassle you will go through to try to recoup that $100 is going to cost a lot more than the 100 in terms of time spent and mental anguish by the time you're through. it's just not worth it to put stress on yourself unnecessarily.

contracts are good, and will cover your *** if it's a good contract, but a contract may also lose you clients, if they see that you want them to sign a 10 page document before you'll cut a tree.

In any business, you'll come across good customers and bad customers. ultimately, you'll have to be the judge of what is appropriate action for you. but speaking from personal experience, dwelling on the bad customers just makes you bitter, which leads to more bad customers.
