What’s up guys, my names Abel and I’m from LA. I recently started a saltwater reef. I’ve always been a planted tank type of guy.

But recently I started a nano reef. Yes I know with nano reefs fluctuations are harder to control.... but I’m willing to learn the hard way because nothings ever going to be easy in life
I have a 10 gallon nano reef with live rock and live sand. I already have a couple corals like zoa’s and mushrooms. Most corals I got from a trade, like the utter chaos zoas & other zoas (dont know any names except that one)

I also have gsp! I did isolate it from my main rock scape because I’ve heard about how quickly they take over.

I’m running a fluval nano sea light, HOB and a rio pump. Soon I’ll get a skimmer of some sort... let me know if I am doing anything wrong as this is my first time ever posting and ever dealing with saltwater reef! But in my opinion everything looks happy!

You guys can follow me on Instagram @aa.aquascaping for more planted tank stuff and even nano reef pics. Thanks! Hope I learn a lot from this huge forum!

Thanks! It’s a mixture of rotala mini coin, rotala macaranda yellow, and some random ludwigias. The carpet is Monte Carlo
Good start with the softy’s. I’m really liking the planted tank as well.
You will do well in this hobby!
Yeah! The softies are a great way to learn. I’ve been seeing small growth little by little I can keep this thread updated everytime something changes!

So it’s been around 1 month since I started the nano reef and I decided to take some progress pics

I still need to buy some coral glue to glue some of these in place... I also got a fire goby it seems to be doing fine to me. Last I rested my Alk was 8.3?? I’m not sure if I’m correct but I’ll be sure to share my parameters next update within a month or so haven’t had any problems yet, but I’m still looking to get a nano skimmer (glass skimmer) or buy one of those filters that come with a built in skimmer, if anyone has any suggestions please drop a link

If it is an entirely all in one with no backigng/overflow (aqueon 10g?) i would recommend just the coralife filter plus skimmer.

Aqua c remora s is fantastic if you get the overflow kit, but it will be ridiculously expensive.

As long as you keep up with water change. You won't need a skimmer. I also keep a planted tank with lots of shrimps. Got into reefing about a year ago. I am still learning new things about reefing every day.
