Welcome! Take your time with this hobby, and read as much info as you can. You’ll thank yourself down the road. It does look like a birdnest coral on the sand bed, it’s usually a good beginner, you just have to make sure your tank is ready for it.

19 years in the hobby and LOVING it myself.

Homie you picked one of the harder beginner corals to start with. Not bad, but it's a thing. I would get that off of the sand bed ASAP. You can either wedge it inbetween two rocks and let it grow there, or take some super glue gel (I find the 2-3 packs at the dollar store are best) and glue it to a rock.

That coral needs a stable alkalinity, which isn't where most newbies start, but it is where most reef keepers get to. So maybe starting early will be a good thing for you.

If you are looking for corals some of the easier ones would be zoanthids, kenya trees, and mushroom/ricordias. LPS corals are a step harder than those but some amazing options in color and beauty there. SPS is probably the hardest of the corals to keep, and not just because it's a stoney coral. They require really pristine water and a stable alkalinity/calcium ration which will require dosing your tank often daily.

Post a full tank shot! We are all nerds here too.
