i wanted to start a thread to get some peoples ideas on how to make some octopus toys for my new cephalopod....boredum leads to higher suicide rates along with other neurotic stress disorders like inking, banging against the glass and even autophagy (eating the tips of their own arms) so i was hoping to tap into everyones creativity to help me and other cephalopod lovers some good ideas for toys....so lets see what we can come up with!

my first idea was maybe some live food in a piece pvc pipe with caps at both ends with holes drilled in it so the octopus can see the food...but needs to figure out how pull one of the caps off.....

Do you have a picture of it?

Also, do you have a tight fitting lid? I've heard that they're prone to escape(although I doubt they get too far).

I am thinking of getting one too. Have anyone know if Octopus will eat any conch and snail that clean the tank?

Hence the reason for this thread...to help octo keepers PREVENT that boredum....it shortens life span and can cause the octo to get a little too adventurous and end up on the floor

yes the octo wil leat snails and or the conch-- someday-- not for sure--but be prepared, they might get bored and start eating things someday--

When I was at Monterrey aquarium we took the behind the Serbs tour and she talked about using astro turf around the edges of the octopus displays to keep them from wandering. What was happening was they would stock a tank next to the octos tank with fish and mysteriously they were dissapearing. The octo at night was climbing up and over and into the other tank eatin the fish and was in it's own tank by the next morning.

Yeah ive seen people suggest it but u need to have the distance from the bottom of the turf to the top of the aquarium be twice as long as the octos arm span...kinda wouldnt work in a home aquarium....if u keep them entertained and well fed...they tend to wander less
