Just use vodka or higher carbon source. No mixing, no pH drop, and cheaper per carbon.

From what I read, vinegar feeds a different type of heterotropic bacteria, slower acting, not drastically causing blooms, and not quickly dropping O2 level. Higher concentration of vinegar is a better balance.

Not sure, I've heard the same theories but I just assume its more BS marketing to sell NoPox or similar TM products. I just use vodka or glycol, gives me the most carbon per volume. I've never had a problem with blooms or oxygen drops...but I also dose very little since it has much more carbon.

I'm embracing the lazy reefer ways.

Just admit it, Jimbo — you are an alcoholic. Those vodka bottles are for you or your reef? ;)

But honestly — I can’t really tell the difference. The pros for vodka: it doesn’t smell and you only need to dose 1/6th the amount. I do like the DIY NoPox cause it makes me look sophisticated in front of my neighbors…lol

I know that vodka or vinegar is cheeper, pure sugar is even cheeper yet. IMO, the price of NoPox isn’t going to break the bank and it does a good job. also comes with published verifiable data. Just makes me feel better about it. I’ll run tests again this weekend after a week of 20ML/wk. tank is looking great BTW. Still not sure what caused my RTN event. I may never know.
