I am sure this is normal, But was wondering if it is possible to eliminate these. My build thread is in my sig if you care to see the equip. I am using.

I did just order a carbon/gfo that should be her next week, as well as some WP40's for a more consistent water movement.

Second question. When you guys do water changes do you blow your rock off to kick up all the loose waste?

What is your water change procedure look like.

thanks!

there are tiny things flying around the tank, I dunno how to explain it. Imagine small pieces of broke down flake food. I am being very picky though, its not like they are huge things floating around.

Running a filter sock will help catch those particles. You will always have some floating around though. I think running ozone will help break those down also but I wouldn't run it on a smaller tank. I can't see what size tank you have as my iPad wont show the signatures.

Try adjusting your returns and wavemakers to blow more junk up to the overflow. I think I know what you mean though - i.e. if you were to take a 1/4" square of a plastic bag and drop it in your DT, the pumps would just continually move it around rather than it going up to the overflow and down to the filtration?

I rarely blow off the rocks. But I do have high flow in my tank. If you want clear water use a sock on the return and the ROX carbon from brs in a reactor.

If all the above doesn't work to your liking inject air into your DT a few times aday:)
Didn't you have some research links showing the benefits of doing this? If you wouldn't mind posting them out pming them to me. I'd appreciate it. Watching some documentaries of the reef and noticed certain times during the day the waves come in and lots of bubbles are introduced to the reef through them crashing. Got me thinking

I blow my rocks off every couple of days just to get the detritus off and into the sock. When I water change, I always siphon a little bit of the sand, especially where I manually feed my yasha goby as he's basically blind and only eats when I turkey baster food right infront of him. It ends up leavnig lots of residual food and it's a good place to siphon at.
