I have a tank set up full time were all my strange goes. All inverts and corals live there for 90 days before going into the display. That way if they bring any problems I can handle it there. If anything new goes into that tank the clock restarts. So Aips popped up peps went in Aips are gone....now I get to buy more corals tomorrow and restart the clock.

Thats the right way to do it! It’s just hard to find space and time to dedicate to that level of QT.

Yeah it does take a bit more effort thats for sure
The Frag QT is in the garage and made mostly of used parts. The toughest part of it is monitoring the parameters. They never really stabilize 100% due to the constant in/out of corals. It has really helped me to dial in my parameter maintenence game though. It also makes for a great experiment tank.

My garage gets too hot in the summer or when my hot car is parked in there, so I can't set up a frag/QT tank in there. Do you run a chiller in the garage?

Yes I do run a chiller. I have an old American made Universal Marine chiller that I scored as a part of a package deal, and a 300w finnex heater. The tank never moves from 78°, even when the garage is hot as Hell. During the heat spell we went through 2-3 weeks ago the the garage was getting over 110°.

This chiller ran one of the tanks @ an LFS for many years then one of the employee's took it home and ran his garage frag tank for several years and now it's running mine. It is old, it is ugly, the screws are rusty, and it cranks out cold water no problem.....I love American made stuff.

Looks like this laser is no longer sold. Do you remember how much you paid to get a laser like this? I'm getting tired of making kalk paste and putting hands in the tank while the Aips continue their hostile takeover. I've got a CBB coming but not until December...

I used to inject vinegar into the aiptasia, but I think it wound up making aiptasia exploding in numbers. So that's why I got some peppermints, but I'm not sure they would eat the huge aiptasia that I have. These suckers are like 1.5" in diameter (mother colony of aiptasia).

Maybe because I broadcast feel a lot into my tank, the softies are doing so well in my tank. And so are the aiptasia. I need to make a new concoction to inject.

That's my problem. I broadcast feed A LOT. All sorts of planktonic foods. Everything was generally under control, but a population of large ones grew in the inaccessible part of the back and, well, now they are everywhere.

That’s brutal. I feed heavy too. You should cut feeding back a bit and get some bio control asap.

Yup, the ones in the back and under other rocks, I can't get to. These are the mother colony of giant aiptasias. It is just waving its giant tentacles in my face.

That is exactly my feeling. I can look through the side glass there in the middle and it's just there, free and big and happy.

My nutrients are usually pretty low, and I have 5 wrasses, so they need to eat several times a day. I'm also Italian descent, so there's something there that just resists feeding less.

Injecting potassium hydroxide seems to work with aiptasia and palys. I'm going to try some soon. The key is to only kill/inject a few at a time, especially when working with palys.

Yes, I don't have potassium hydroxide. But I have potassium chloride powder, so I can whip a concoction up to see if that'll do the trick.

ESPECIALLY when working with palys. One of the LFS near my house had some blue palys growing in their display. A customer wanted them so the shop owner pulled them. Evidently they were quite toxic because within an hour he got sick, several LPS closed up, and the next day several acros were bleached. None of those corals ever recovered. Palytoxin is no joke.

Dang I feel your pain. I have 6 tangs and 30+ fish. Feeding less sometimes is not an option

Just an update on my new CBB. Aiptasia are gone! CB still eating clam and PE MYSIS. Very annoying to fish out shell everyday. Gonna try feeding box 3D print.
I figure it’s cheaper to buy cbb and clam for it than buying annual peppermint shrimp and stress out about introducing velvet into the tank. I usually spend $100 annually for new peppermint after shipping. This CBB run me $125 so far. But feeding clam can be expensive….

I have a CBB expected around late Nov, mid Dec. I will probably have to cave in and get some peppermints between now and then. My aiptasia are exploding.
