I just purchased a 6x2x2 with a center overflow. The tank has is drilled on the bottom pane for a 1.5" and two 1" bullheads.
I know the smaller holes are typically for returns but I would prefer to bring the return up over the back so I could make a more efficient/quiet drain system.

Is this possible with different sized bulkheads? What are your recommendations?

Thank you

No I'd like to run a Herbie or bean animal style drain to quite the system but am not sure if that is possible with the diameters listed for the drains...

You could use 1 of the 2 1" holes as a drain and tee off the other 1" hole into 2 return lines. Use the 1.5" as either your main drain or as the emergency wide open drain

A single 1.5" drain line has more volume capacity than 2 x 1" drain lines. So if I were to do a bean style setup, I would use the two 1" lines as the underwater / lower drains (with the screening) and the 1.5" as the emergency drain line. Very doable if you run your return on the exterior of the tank.

That said... a single 1.5" return is really small for a 180. This is why on larger tanks I prefer two overflows with two bean style setups. You can never have too much redundancy when it comes to water flow to your sump, because the part of the loop that is most likely to fail is the drain part... leading to overflow. The bigger the drain line, the less likely you are to encounter something in your system that will clog it.

I'd use one of the 1inch returns as the full siphon for the Herbie, and the 1.5 inch as the overflow/emergency drain. The remaining 1inch would be the return - T it off if there are dual returns.
