I have been reading on some various forums about people using 55g barrels to culture copepods outdoors in full sun. Some of the cultures turn out thousands of pods a month.

Is anyone in this group doing something like this? I am just curious if it would work with our climate. I am considering burying a barrel a few feet in the ground and trying this myself.

Depends on the POD’s, but temperature control would be challenging outdoors with said set up
Certain species can handle a large temp fluctuation. 40-95F and still be productive. Burying the barrel a few feet down really helps control temperature a lot. They should stay under 80F I would guess.

Calfo did his outdoor green houses in Pennsylvania the same way. Just buried the tanks down a few feet.
