So, I got a freebie small sample bottle of pods from a vendor at RAP. And a bottle of green phyto. I’m not sure what kind of pods, but I’m guessing it’s Tisbe pods.

I’ve been pouring half of the bottle of pods in my tank daily, and then topping it off with tank water…and then adding small amounts of phyto into pod bottle. Surprisingly, after 1 month, there are still pods in the bottle. It is not dense, but easily a couple hundred pods.

That got me thinking, I’m going to try a new experiment. I’m going to make a bigger container with powdered fish food and phyto, and adding some pods in there and just let it grow and hopefully get dense. No air stones. Just top off water and occasionally add more food.

This is the original bottles after 30 days. (Left is pods, right is phyto)

This is Day 1 of the bigger container (-1L). I added some powdered food, a little bit of sugar, tank water. Then I poured in half of the pod bottle into this bigger container to seed it today. There are probably only 50 pods starting.

I’ll update this thread to see if this lazy way can maintain or even grow pods, and how dense can it get? I’m just going to keep this on top of my tank, so it will get a little bit of light. It doesn’t cost me anything, so why not. I’m not even adding an air hose just to see what is possible with this setup.

You don't need anything fancy, 1L or 2L bottles work just fine, just make sure to give them phyto and they'll do everything else.

Do you think an air hose is required?

I'm going to run out of phyto soon, do you think a blend of powdered fish/coral food will work without phyto?

I don't think you need one, but I have one that barely puts bubbles in the bottle. If there's not much surface area for air exchange, then maybe having one would help.

^ I agree, It does look hella ghetto. I'm the Jesse Pinkman of pod growing. LOL.

This is just an experiment for fun. It would be much easier if just buying a bottle packed with pods, but it's not that fun or interesting. I read another thread where some people grow pods outside in a tupperware, and they literally throw a banana in there as food and no temp/salinity control. And supposedly, their pods are growing good.

I dropped the smaller bottle of pods into the tank, and I think that killed off most of my pods.

I still have the bigger container, and it has a lot of pods. So I may need to transfer some over.

Someone hook me up with some tigger pods and I'll throw a plastic tub outside with a banana peel. LOL. And seriously, if anyone tries that, start a thread to document your success or failure.

Where do you put your tanks? Outdoors or indoors? And do you keep light or air hose?

I'm tempted to just try it outside on my balcony.

The bigger container crashed. So I’m just doing 2 smaller bottles. If 1 crashes, I’ll have the other one to restart.

2 of the Tisbe and 2 of the Tigger pods in just regular drink bottles. Just add some phyto to keep the water tinted.

I think I’m going to keep them in my stand and not exposed to light.
