So, I got a freebie small sample bottle of pods from a vendor at RAP. And a bottle of green phyto. I’m not sure what kind of pods, but I’m guessing it’s Tisbe pods.
I’ve been pouring half of the bottle of pods in my tank daily, and then topping it off with tank water…and then adding small amounts of phyto into pod bottle. Surprisingly, after 1 month, there are still pods in the bottle. It is not dense, but easily a couple hundred pods.
That got me thinking, I’m going to try a new experiment. I’m going to make a bigger container with powdered fish food and phyto, and adding some pods in there and just let it grow and hopefully get dense. No air stones. Just top off water and occasionally add more food.
This is the original bottles after 30 days. (Left is pods, right is phyto)
This is Day 1 of the bigger container (-1L). I added some powdered food, a little bit of sugar, tank water. Then I poured in half of the pod bottle into this bigger container to seed it today. There are probably only 50 pods starting.
I’ll update this thread to see if this lazy way can maintain or even grow pods, and how dense can it get? I’m just going to keep this on top of my tank, so it will get a little bit of light. It doesn’t cost me anything, so why not. I’m not even adding an air hose just to see what is possible with this setup.
