I just bought a 110g tank with sump & skimmer.
How many pump do I need for the whole system. Maybe 1 for the skimmer and 1 for the return, and perhaps 1 for circulation?
What "best value" pump would you guys recommend that is best for the money.
I looked at quiet one, the price is low, quiet, and the rate is high but some said it's not durable.
Please share your experience
Thanks guys

For the return pump, I think Eheim 1260 or 1262 is really reliable pump. What kind of Skimmer are you going to get?
For in tank circulation, I think you should go with Powerheads instead of water pump.

What's the difference between powerhead and water pump.
I'm clueless about my skimmer. I do know that it's an in sump-skimmer which doesn't have a pump. So I don't know its rate and how many gallons it can handle cuz my brother gave it to me. And he took down his tank 2-3 years ago so he already forgot.

Posting a pic & dimensions of the skimmer will make it a lot easier for us to determine what size and type pump you need. Different types of skimmers require different types of pumps....................i.e needlewheel skimmer/needlewheel pump, downdraft skimmer/high head pump, etc.

Eheim are good pumps but are high $. I have been running a Quiteone 4000 for 2yrs now and its great. For circulation i woul go with Koralia's, they use little power and produce lots of flow. About that skimmer, get a pic up.

the exact same thing i would say for return and in tank circulation.

the quiet one 400o for return has been excellent in performance and is pretty quiet. the 'only' thing i have noticed with quiet ones is that it has trouble starting up 'if' air gets trapped in them.

koralias are champs for restart if power goes out. i havent had one yet not restart when the power ws off.

the best of the best submersible returns, as others have said, are eheims. pricey? yeah but i have yet have one fail.

good luck!

Dylan I will be honest with you, once you start this hobby and you get the addiction going its UN-curable, my suggestion is if you can afford the high end equipment might as well get them.
1, for sure in less than 1 year, you will start up-grading (going for a better equipment)
2, with the cheap stuff there are higher risk of malfunction and headache and death to tank inhabitants.
or use what you got now and what ever you buy ask for opinion first like what your doing now, as for return pump there are some reliable brand like Eheim, Quietone, Mag pump and I will stir away from any Taam product (just my opinion) due to bad experience
