I read in a post on another site that they dont survive very well in captivity. From what the post said they will slowly die from starvation. I believe the post said they may last about a year. I wanted to get one at one time and after reading that changed my mind. Others that have them may chime in here also but thats about all I have to offer.

"You must feed it daily with phytoplankton, Marine Snow or any other "filter feeding" foods that are available out there. I've had mine for about 4 months now."

I found that at another site I regularly visit. There were people that said they had theirs anywhere between 3 months and 2 years. They all said regular target feeding was one of the keys to keeping them alive.

Good luck and post some pics if you get one. Hope that helps

Very cool looking but nonetheless it is one that is best left in the wild. Feeding for these is best accomplished by using an inverted half soda bottle with phyto/zooplankton rotifers and perhaps baby brine (newly hatched) daily. They will not stay where you put them so are unsuitable for a tank that has rockwork which they may become hidden or lodged as you will likely not be able to provide enough food to sustain them without adversely affecting your water parameters. Unless you have virtually no rockwork, you likely never see the scallop (actually a file clam) except for the day you purchased it as it will seek out crevasses to hide in.

no problem. I dont like to dicourage people from getting things they want but I also dont like to see animals suffer slow death by starvation. I think you made a good desicion on not getting one and I thank you.
